AP is reporting that Wilson Pickett is dead of a heart attack at the age of 64.

"I guess you better slow that Mustang down...."

That is really sad. "Mustang Sally" was one of my favs.

Aided immeasurably by the excellent studio bands backing him at the Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, and The Fame Studio in Muscle Shoals Alabama, Pickett scored a series of R&B and pop hits on Atlantic Records between 1963 and 1972 that included "In the Midnight Hour," "Mustang Sally," and "Funky Broadway."'

There are soul singers with "it" in every generation. They must be out there, but I can't name names because I haven't been keeping up with the genre.

That said, Wilson Pickett's musical styling was uniquely his own.
And his music will live on.
