Subject: BS: Where is George - track yer money From: katlaughing Date: 06 Feb 06 - 11:57 PM Apologies if someone has posted this previously. It is kinda fun and I wanted to share it: www.wheresgeorge.com (I would put in a link, but everytime I try to type in a forward slash or apostrophe my stupid computer brings up the "Find" function!) I found the addy for that website written on a one dollar bill, apparently by someone in Albuquerque, NM. Have fun. Canadian money is trackable, too. kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Where is George - track yer money From: GUEST,G Date: 07 Feb 06 - 12:02 PM Not to be a cynic but how can a one dollar be tracked around the country? The serial number would have to be scanned and recorded. I am not aware of any vending machine that does this. A good way to collect email addresses, spread a virus, etc. Nothing personal, Kat, it is a clever thought. |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is George - track yer money From: bobad Date: 07 Feb 06 - 12:09 PM "In some cases bobad that is ALL some people have in the US..!" I was alluding to the fact that many countries have gone to 1 and even 2 dollar coins on account of the reduced purchasing power of the dollar and the economic benefit of the longevity of coins. In Canada we will probably even be using 5 dollar coins soon. |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is George - track yer money From: Alba Date: 07 Feb 06 - 12:34 PM I know that bobad:) I was being oh..forget it. I was agreeing with you though..really. Best Wishes Jude |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is George - track yer money From: Rapparee Date: 07 Feb 06 - 01:59 PM Apparently people input the serial numbers, it could have been in many places between entries. There is no scanning. |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is George - track yer money From: GUEST,open mike Date: 07 Feb 06 - 02:12 PM this is a site where you enter the serial number of a bill and then mark the bill in some way (there are rubber stamps to dothis with) that alert others who see it to also post the location where it was found and or spent (this requires you to fold, spindle and/or mutilate the currency) but it is interesting to track it. if you go to the site your questions will be answered. (and KAT...if you cut and paste using the mud cat link maker it seems you can put a blickie without using the individual keys...) |
Subject: RE: BS: Where is George - track yer money From: Amos Date: 07 Feb 06 - 02:57 PM You can also just put one of your pocket's dollars into it with series and serial number and see if anyone else has ever entered it into the database; if so it will show you a map of the bill's travels. While it is cute, it has no real use right now. But I would mention that the advent of microscopic RFID tokens is right over the horizon, and there is no reason the Feds couldn't institute a huge cash-eavesdropping network once they could print RFID right into the bill; every time that bill passed one of their sensors -- for example, they could require one in every ATM machine -- it would add to the database and you would soon be able to analyze the cash economy's ebb and flow by abstracting the larger population patterns from the travel of the individual bills. This would open a real can o'worms -- just the kind of thing Bush would love to do to protect the citizens of our great country from terrorists, I am sure. A |
