Subject: Happy! – Feb 14 (Michael Doucet) From: Abby Sale Date: 14 Feb 06 - 08:40 AM Happy Birthday! Cajun music revivalist, zydecist, fiddler, singer and BeauSoleil founder, Michael Doucet was born 2/14/1951 in Scott, LA Per AMG, his reinterest in Cajun music was sparked by Fairport Convention's "Cajun Woman." He ended up staying many years studying with Scottish fiddle great Barry Dransfield, who introduced him to Richard Thompson. Doucet credited Thompson for influencing his own composition. We had tickets to see them in Tampa last weekend, but it was sadly too cold to attend an outdoor gig. They've had bad luck trying to play here in Winter. Doucet is one of the finest musicians at work today. |

Actually their article on him is pretty complimentary but starts at age 15 in Leeds. Doesn't mention date or place of birth. But I don't think anyone hearing him or Robin speak for as much as 30 seconds would ever say he was Scottish. See http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=88766 & thanks for the correction, Paul. |
