Subject: Any new songs brewing? From: KT Date: 01 Mar 06 - 06:07 PM The current songwriting thread has got me thinking....There are a lot of songwriters who frequent this site, and many more folks who write eloquently, but whose words have not yet found their way to a melody. There used to be a Songwriting Challenge thread which would pop up from time to time. It challenged, inspired and got those creative juices flowing! Some great stuff came out of those threads, which were often inspired by a current news event. What are some topics you're writing about these days? Or, what do you think there ought to be a song about? Are you writing these days? Or has the muse been on vacation? Perhaps we can get those creative juices flowing again. KT |
Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: George Papavgeris Date: 01 Mar 06 - 07:07 PM Watching the BBC4 Protest Folk concert last Friday I was proud to see up there two friends - Andy Irvine and Robb Johnson. And an idea came to my head, which I haven't worked on yet; something about being proud of/for others. "I was so proud of/for you" and so on. Care to have a go? |
Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: KT Date: 01 Mar 06 - 08:42 PM That's a great idea George! We all have experiences like that, so it's something people could relate to . Is that the Andy Irvine in the fiddle tune? |
Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: GUEST,Cats Date: 02 Mar 06 - 06:29 AM Heslop has just finished a stunning song ~ it made me cry. Just before Christmas there was a snippet of news about the Lifeboats not using maroons any more and there was a lifeboatman from the Lizard boat talking about how things have changed over the years. He talked about how, at the turn of the previous century, when the maroons went up the lifeboatmen who lived in Cadgwith ran across the fields to the Lizard station and the farmer, en route, would hitch a farm cart to get them there and the horses, hearing the maroon, would gallop up to the farm yard and stand ready. But now the horses just stand and wait...... |

Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: ChrisE Date: 02 Mar 06 - 08:20 AM Hi there, I like the idea of writing a song "I'm proud of you". It sounds like the title for a motivating song and in those days it's important to have songs like that because a lot of people dont have any perspectives. For me it's easier to write slower songs. I have problems with writing happy or fast ones. When I write them they sound ridiculous. The second thing is that I'm not a native speaker - I'm from Austria/Salzburg - so it's quite challenging to find the right words. The last song I wrote is this one: Back to Ireland I just sent a thread today to listen to it because only because I like it doesn't mean that everyone likes it, so I need opinions :-) Slan Chris ---------- Trianam |
Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: MMario Date: 02 Mar 06 - 08:32 AM I have trouble writing songs - and the few singable ones I have managed and that people seem to like are really close to "navel-gazing" subject matter. But I'm perfectly wiling to |

Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: GUEST,Cats Date: 02 Mar 06 - 10:50 AM I won't be in Kidderminster but Jon is driving up tomorrow. I can't get the time off school to go so I'll spend the weekend all on my own....aaahhh!!! Jon should be there sometime late afternoon, snow permitting. Look out for our camper. Have a good weekend, it sounds as if it is going to be brilliant. |
Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: KT Date: 02 Mar 06 - 04:23 PM ChrisE, your links are working fine, now. Very clear, and very nice! I see from your web site that you have a gig on St. Patrick's Day. I'll send someone your way! KT |
Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: ChrisE Date: 03 Mar 06 - 05:38 AM Hi, I was already worried about the links...yes, we'll have a gig on St. Patrick's Day...but I guess the most interesting will be the one in Vienna on the 19th. Some Irish friend's will come over to Vienna and we'll go to this pub Molly Darcey's and one of them is going to talk about the irish history and we'll play songs that are about those happenings. All the best, Chris Trianam - Folk Music from Salzburg |

Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: breezy Date: 03 Mar 06 - 06:23 AM aprt from that ther are a host of new, good songs emerging all the time. I am very lucky in thet El Greko and Chris Flegg are residents at my club so I hear their latest songs very soon after they are written and often its their fisrt airing, so we are doubly fortunate. george has some quality songs on his new CD launching Mon3rd April at Herga, my favoured one is called, wait for it, 'You're The Biggest Part of Me' Now you may well surmise, but you'll be way off track. I believe it'll be one of his most popular. Chris Flegg is well worth a listen, and one of his songs has been heard at festiaval singarounds this last year, its called 'A Hill So High' though I also know it as 'Wilmington Man' It was rnner-up at last years Maidenhead song contest which always throws up some very good new songs, well worth attending , next one march 2007 i think So there must be others out there too, as I aim to catch up with Hislop sometime, oh and then there's Ben Campbell down in Plymouth Yep theres plenty of new stuff brewing, got out and draw. |
Subject: RE: Any new songs brewing? From: breezy Date: 03 Mar 06 - 06:25 AM Chris Flegg will be featuring his latest songs at his forthcoming gig at the Wandering Windward Folk song Club St Albans on Sunday 12th March at the Comfort Hotel, Holywell Hill, st Albans thats it I 'm done |
