I'm not sure how much press this is getting in Britain:

Accused Wanted to Buy Atomic Bomb, Jury Hears

It seems an interesting case, the suspects didn't actually "do" anything, but they had bought the makings of a bomb, and were apparently interested in being agents for purchase of a nuclear bomb, although from the article itself I can only surmise they wanted the makings of a 'dirty' bomb, not necessarily an atomic bomb. Is this playing big in Britain? I haven't seen much about it here in the states.

We're entering the era of 'intent' on trial moreso than proven actions.

Would Guy Fawkes have been so easy to try if he'd been found with casks of gunpowder in the woodshed and a tunnel drawing on a sheet of foolscap?

well its front page. Main story on the tv news.

what do you suggest. we wait til they do actions and then try and prove it.

as for Guy Fawkes - plenty of people in that era were killed for doing nothing at all. Guy himself, was tortured within an inch of his life to produce the confession that did for him. However he was a Yorkshire lad, and he knew he was up against it when them nasty southerners started oiling up the rack and warming up the toasting forks.

Believe you me, Guy Fawkes and his pals would have swapped situations with these guys like a shot.

They had procured a large quantity of nitrate fertiliser and aluminium powder.
They were a serious threat to the lives of ordinary people.

Sorry, not proved guilty and pleading innocent.
Our media is not permitted during a trial to do more than report what has been said in court without comment.

If they are being charged with conspiracy then surely their intent is what the prosecution is trying to prove. You don't actually have to commit a crime to be guilty of conspiracy to commit it.
