Subject: Help a student! From: GUEST,Jan S. Date: 28 Mar 06 - 07:22 AM Hello, first I'd like to apologize for being really offtopic with this but I need your help! I'm looking for people from the US to take a short survey on 'Seeking Information on the Internet' (that is my thesis's subject). The survey and more info is located here : http://sii.asp2.cz/us. It won't take more than 3 minutes. My goal is to compare American and Czech internet users by their approach to the Internet, what they use and so on. Thanks so much to everyone who participate! Subject: RE: Help a student! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 28 Mar 06 - 11:39 AM How did you find and decide to use Mudcat as a source of subjects? This is an English-speaking site based in the U.S., but many users are from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, with a healthy smattering of English-speakers from all over the place. Just so you know. SRS |

Subject: RE: Help a student! From: GUEST Date: 29 Mar 06 - 07:13 AM Hello, thank you for replies! Results will appear (and some can already be displayed) on the page. I found this forum via Google query, i think it was "Discussion forum". So I started posting on forums because I couldn't think of any other way to bring people to the page. Beside spam and advertising on search engines of course, but that was way too expensive for me ($700 for a million email addresses and at least $2 for a click-through on Google Ad-sense). That will bring some biased answers - the one about discussion forums at least :) I understand that I can hardly filter US-only traffic (well, there are ways but again expensive and complicated) so I rely on visitors. I don't believe the results will be completely accurate but at least I'd like to try. There is no actual deadline, the site will go on as long as those questions remain relevant, but I also need, say, 100 people from both countries in two weeks time. Pretty tough :) It's getting harder to monitor all those forums, I'd be happy to talk more about the subject on my own forum at http://www.siimaster.proboards52.com Thanks once again! Jan |

Subject: RE: Help a student! From: JohnInKansas Date: 29 Mar 06 - 04:34 PM I just completed the survey, and it is pretty simple and painless. I did note an error - just after I posted. At the question for "how many search engines do you know of, I omitted all but two of the 18 I have links for, because I don't use them except on very rare occasions, so I felt listing them all would be redundant and not responsive to the information wanted (judgment call?). While wrestling with that decision, I did omit one "special purpose" search engine that I do use quite at lot, at ArtCyclopedia, that should have been listed. Perhaps others who may yet contribute will want to consider similar "special" ones that might get overlooked in an overly quick response? John |
