I have just been reading about the idea of a mudcat sampler C.D. It sounds like a great idea and I for one would be interested in a copy if ever one comes out. But a thought struck me, What if there was a mudcat festival where mwmbers could come for a weekend to share their music. there could be workshops on midi music, and other aspects of computing which would be interesting to people like me who have only just started on computers. I understand that it would probably have to take place in the U.S.A. But with cheap flights from Europe these days that would go nicely with a holiday. I have only known mudcat since november but I am begining to know various members by their letters and names and I sure would like to meet them face to face and swap a few tunes. What does anyone else think of the idea. Cheers Bill

Bill, there is movement amoung a few to try to make it to the FSGW Getaway weekend,(near Wash DC) which is as close as anything to where the Digitrad/Mudcat thing started...we had a couple last October, and several more say they are planning for this year...I know it's on the east coast, and still tricky to get to for some...but there are various festivals where Mudcatters posted that they were going to be...perhaps those who wish to can keep these sorts of advance warnings going, and meet some of their on-line friends there.. (it would be easier than adding one more festival/weekend to an already crowded schedule...and less work, too!) Just putting up a 'Mudcat' sign or wearing a t-shirt may be all that is necessary some day...

I am all for an official Mudcat get together but have no idea where to start. I should be going to the FSGW Getaway this year, and am quite sorry I missed it last year. I'll ponder over this and see where it takes me.

A festival would be great but I agree that wearing your t-shirt at any festival would get you connected in person instantly. Bill Sables, I'll be at the Old Songs Festival in Altamont, New York at the end of June- a great place where several Mudcatters were last year.

Max,

Why not use the Getaway for a planning session? Any Mudcatters who could get there could do some brainstorming and planning and the results could be posted to the thread. Old Songs is another great place and it's sooner than the Getaway. I'll be there selling Folk Legacy Records with the Patons. Maybe the booth could be a meeting place for Mudcatters. Of course, I haven't asked Sandy yet but I'm sure he won't mind. Right, Sandy?

I love the idea of a Mudcat Festival and would be willing to help however I could.

karen k

Where and when is Old Songs? I would also be willing to help in any way possible, from planning to hauling trash.

Hi Mick, it's in Upstate New York, not far from Albany. maybe end of June begining of July(?). Excellent festival if you'd rather more of the traditional or folk side than the singer/songwriter & acoustic side. The campsites onsite provide for some real fine music & the singing sessions on Fri & Sat nights are wonderful. It's also frequented by Mudcatters, met some & missed (sigh) some last year. Barry

I don't suppose I am going to get to the US this year (or any other) but I was wondering if anyone in the UK had any ideas on similar lines as to where/what fesivals we could congregate in the UK? It would be very nice to have a session with some of you, maybe we have done so already, how would we know?

What's the date of the FSGW Getaway? If it's in October, I'll be retired and will try to make it.

Hello, All:

As Karen K. suggests, the staff in the Folk-Legacy booth at Old Songs will be watching for Mudcat logos as they drop in or pass by. The space behind the booth will be open to all for chants, chunes, and chats. We'll even try to get the extra tent set up, in case of the traditional rainstorm.

Old Songs maintains a web page offering essential information. Click here: OLD SONGS FESTIVAL. That should get you to it. Bookmark it. We think it's one of the best festivals going, and is worth supporting. Maybe, if we show Andy and Bill Spence how much it means to us, they'll agree to keep it going for many more years.

Sandy

Hi Aminaterra, if you're dancing with a flaminco it will be alot easier for me to find you this time instead of your car. I'll be singing Sunday (Sea Shanties - Finn & Haddie). Wally Macnow, Paton (Sandy, Caroline, Robin & David), LaMarca (haven't heard from her in a bit) & Dan Milner are all on the schedule too. Looks like this could be the start of a small Cat Convention.Dates for anyone interested are April 23-24. Barry

Well, I should add that I'll probably be there, unless I'm in Turkey (the country, not the state of mind). No, really- my school has been invited to participate in a children's festival and a small group of us may be performing children's games and New England folk dances for Turkish national tv that weekend. Frankly, at this point with the world the way it is, I think I'd rather go to NEFFA!

You know, I'm very much in favor of identifying ourselves as Mudcat people at festivals, and I'm also in favor of as many of you as possible coming to the FSGW Getaway. The few who made it last fall were a great addition to the festivities.

Yet and still, think about how it would be at a whole weekend where mostly Mudcat users were present (with families etc.) It would be a blast. All that music, all those smiles, all those happy hugs as we finally get to meet each other in the flesh. All that music!!!

Having said that, I'm going to sign off before somebody asks me if I'd like to organize it. - Rita Ferrara

Do I detect underground folkies?! This computer thing may be worthwhile after all. I'm on a 30 year hunt for the lyrics to The Hunting Song, from Pentangle's "Basket of Light" album. Drives me nuts not to understand lyrics...I must know before I die ! I tried writing to the record company years ago but got no answer. Can anyone help ????

Hi Critters, in the search box at the top right hand side of this page enter in with the square brackets [Hunting Song] & you'll find a song with words called the Hunting Song & author. You can create a new thread & ask things like this by creating a new thread, at the moment I think the new thread function is limbo but rest assured Max will have it up & running in no time. Welcome. Barry
