What happened? They punt the rivers around the towns? Do they wear straw boaters, white flannels, and striped jackets while ladies in white lawn recline in the front of the punt?

It's REALLY hard work just rowing between Cambridge and Oxford, never mind racing. The long stretch up the M40 is a killer.

It is this race that we pause and have a thought for the much missed Mike Mullen. Mike, a dedicated follower of the race would stand at the finish line each year and cheer on his alma mata team ......... Sheffield......

Now you're just being silly. You'd row all the way down the Thames, past East Anglia, into the Wash, and up the Cam. I don' think there are any weirs between Cambridge and the Sea, and neither of the boats have sunk for a few years. They must be ready for the North Sea by now, or what have they been practicing for?

Ok Oxford won, but they said that they had a pump on board, Cambridge lost 'cos they did not and took in loads of water All my family support Oxford, not me, Cambridge for ever, had to take the phone off the hook to avoid the gloating phone calls, they do not even speak, just go "ha ha ha" Cambridge to win in 2007!

Forget the pump thing. Mount a cannon.

What happened to the tradition that an attractive young lady used to kiss the winning team's cox?

Incidentally, it's always referred as "the Oxford Cambridge Boat Race" never the "Cambridge Oxford Boat Race". (That's when it's not just called "the Boat Race".)

Well, Oxford is the older university
