Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: The Shambles Date: 04 Apr 06 - 04:13 AM Just in case anyone may have missed this explanation which was inserted into an existing post as an editing comment and did not refresh the thread - I will copy it here. One of the Clones was reading the thread, and clicked the "close" link by mistake. Sorry 'bout that. I combined the threads. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: GUEST,The guilty party Date: 04 Apr 06 - 04:36 AM There is no need for The Shambles to go into a feeding frenzy just because I made a mistake. The Close Thread link is so placed that it is close to the Next Page link and it is an easy slip to make if you are not paying attention, which I obviously wasn't. I apologise profusely, I am sorry if that disappoints the conspiracy theorists, but it was as Joe said, a slip of the finger. JC (in sackcloth and ashes. |

And I would like to see said explanation posted under the actual member's name instead of some anonymous "Joe Clone" handle. But I don't know why I'm bothering with this post. We'll get a signed explanation when pigs fly. As we can see from the post by "Guilty Party" above, pigs still don't fly. I, personally, find sincerity and anonymity to be somewhat contradictory concepts. Rhetorical question: If forum moderator anonymity is such a great idea, why is this the only discussion forum I can recall visiting where the names of the moderators aren't prominently listed right on the opening page? |
Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: John MacKenzie Date: 04 Apr 06 - 10:58 AM And they get all the shit that any member cares to fling at them. I bet you wouldn't like to deal with Joe Offer's PMs etc, from members complaining about this that and the other. I know that when I was at Max's he had a very long list of PMs, apparently a regular occurence. I certainly wouldn't like to have someone with the persistence of The Shambles PMing or e-mailing me with their complaints for 7 years! Giok |

Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: Bert Date: 04 Apr 06 - 01:19 PM ....And they get all the shit that any member cares to fling at them... Not true, I've always (well for the last few years at least) made changes using my own name. I have never received any flack for it from anyone. Why I even changed one of Shambles thread titles the other day, changing week to year. It was probably an abuse of my editing priveleges because it was done as a joke. I just couldn't resist it. But I did fess up immediately and haven't received any flack for it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Apr 06 - 04:21 PM Ah, the click that launched a thousand words.... Mountain-molehill analogies might be appropriate here also. If you have complaints about Mudcat editorial actions, complain to me and I'll check it out. My name is prominently displayed in the FAQ as the public contact person, the one to contact about such problems - and you can also contact Jeff and Max. That's why we don't have the Clones identify their actions, to help prevent the Manipulators from playing one volunteer against another. Bert isn't really a JoeClone because he used to be employed at Mudcat Central, and I'm pretty sure he had editing ability before I got it in 1997. So, maybe I'm a BertClone? Whatever the case, the people responsible are Max and Jeff and Joe, and those are the people to consult if you have problems or questions. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: Bert Date: 04 Apr 06 - 04:35 PM I'll second that Joe. Whatever the case, the people responsible are Max and Jeff and Joe, and those are the people to consult if you have problems or questions. |
Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: number 6 Date: 04 Apr 06 - 04:39 PM Mudcat Central ... sounds intriguing ... that's the first time I've heard of that. Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Apr 06 - 05:08 PM At one time Mudcat Central was a very nice office located right above a very nice tavern in West Chester, Pennsylvania. It has a round-the-clock staff and lots of niceties - and Bert and Max were there, in the flesh. we had a live Webcast from the tavern once, and they even let me sing a few songs. Alas, the office closed and now we're in a basement, and Max opens our cages only at feeding times. He's a harsh taskmaster, he is... -Joe- |

Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: The Shambles Date: 05 Apr 06 - 02:56 AM Subject: RE: In the UK..............? From: GUEST,khandu - PM Date: 24 Jul 05 - 10:39 AM I am with The Shambles on this one. A couple of years back, I created a thread regarding a certain troll. Within moments, Pene Azul pmed me and explained that he believed this thread would probably do far more harm than good and requested permission to delete it. Certainly, he could have deleted it without bothering to ask. But Jeff showed more class than that. The simple act of contacting me beforehand made all the difference in the world. I told him to delete it and I felt rather good about it all. Had he or anyone else deleted it without contact, I would have been pissed and would have posted a grumbling thread about it. Simple decency goes a long way. Change my thread titles? Sure, if you believe there is a good reason. But show some civility and respect to the creator of the thread by sending a simple PM. khandu |
Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Apr 06 - 10:25 AM Thanks for posting that, Roger. I totally agree with khandu's sentiments. A similar thing happened a few weeks ago when some moron started a thread asking for URLs of people's favorite porn sites. Several of us were having fun with it, posting links to pictures of non-pornographic stuff like sheep, vegetables and Margaret Thatcher dolls when someone pointed out that, though no links to genuine porn had been posted, the potential existed. She asked permission to request that the thread be deleted and everyone saw the logic of her argument and said "Go for it." Sometimes we tend to be like kids playing in a sandbox and when Mom snatches us out with no explanation we get angry. If Mom would take the time to explain that someone forgot to put the lid on the sandbox and the cats have been shitting in it for weeks we'd be grateful instead. |

Subject: RE: BS: Another Fire Truck Thread From: The Shambles Date: 07 Apr 06 - 06:44 AM Not to be forgotten are the ever-ready Trumpton Fire Brigade, Captain Flack's gallant crew, whose roll-call can be recited by every British television viewer of a certain age: Pugh! Pugh! Barney McGrew! Cuthbert! Dibble! & Grubb! (Pugh and Pugh are twins). This roll-call is heard in every episode (except one in which Cuthbert is omitted because he is on leave), because the Fire Brigade is continually being called out to attend some emergency or other - but to Captain Flack's annoyance, never an actual fire! (Actually the reason for this is that fire would be too difficult to animate.) |

I don't bother with them, but they're fair game for the Clones. -Joe Offer-
