Here is an interesting item commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

Well, it doesn't mean much actually. But I got a laugh out of it just the same.

I refuse to download anything to do with Macromedia Flash, and if you're smart, so will you.

Cheers,
Michael

As far as Ive heard, Flash is safe to run on linux, and not that dangerous on windows if you keep /etc and /home on separate partitions.

Bertie and his party saw the gains the shinners have made in the Republic and decided to go green, The so called Irish Army will parade past the sites they shelled their fellow Irish men in the war of Independence. Funny how the Irish government celebrate the 90th and ignored the 75th. Turns my stomach to hear them call themselves Óglaigh Na hÉireann.

Did anyone else hear this on NPR:

This month, Ireland marks the 90th anniversary of a rebellion against the British, known as the Easter Rising. Although the violent uprising was unsuccessful, it is considered an important stepping-stone in the eventual creation of the Irish Republic.

Coinciding with the anniversary, two auctions houses in Ireland -- Mealy's and James Adam & Son -- will hold a joint sale of documents and memorabilia charting the history of the Irish struggle for independence. The auction takes places this Wednesday.

Fonsie Mealy, managing director of Mealy's Auctioneers in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, tells Liane Hansen about the auction.

Images and audio on THIS PAGE.

Made me sad to hear the things they are selling off, including sheet music for the "Battle Hymn" which they said was sold to raise funds for the families of those who died.

katlaughing was at both auctions, Sunday and Wednesday. Items went for silly prices. Mostly investors bought the big stuff, the state was there but bought very little, I got nothing. Thankfully I already own a sizeable collection relating to this period and collected it many years ago when it was affordable.

Thanks, Divis. I was just surprised the State wouldn't want to keep them, but I guess most of them came from private collectors? IT sounded like an incredible collection.
