Subject: BS: N.O. Mayoral debate on MSNBC Monday From: PoppaGator Date: 16 Apr 06 - 02:45 AM Because so many voters registered in New Orleans are currently scattered all over the country, the upcoming municipal elections are being conducted in an unprecedented manner, with satellite voting sites being provided in multiple cities inside and outside the state of Louisiana and with liberalized absentee voting procedures, etc. Getting information to the electorate about the candidates, and about the mechanics of casting a ballot, requires new and creative uses of mass communications. One interesting development: on Monday evening, April 17, a debate among the major candidates for mayor will be televised, not only on local NBC affiliate WDSU, but also nationwide on the cable station MSNBC (or maybe it's CNBC ~ better check local listings or your onscreen cable/satellite guide). Local news anchor Norman Robinson and NBC's Chris Matthews will share moderator duties. After the broadcast, streaming video will be available for viewing on both the local station's website (www.wdsu.com) and on MSNBC.com. I'm sure that a few of you out there are at least mildly curious about our situation, and you might want to take a look at the debate. |
