Paradise Lost

Personally, I think it could potentially be a very interesting movie. I may go see this one when it finally is released. I wonder if anyone is going to make a movie of The Inferno.....but with the discovery of recent documents some one may have to take Judas' place in Lucifer's mouth....maybe a soon to be ex-president.

I guess with the current state of special effects any book could be turned into a movie. I'll stay open to the possibility that it could be a good film - but there are a lot of reasons why it may be a turkey also. Films are an art form that are run by committees { studios } whereas books are the product of one persons imagination. The creative spark has less of a chance to be extinguished.

Imagine the casting problems. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as Adam and Eve ? Michael Douglas as Lucifer ? Whoopie Goldberg as God ?

The radical right will certainly protest. After all, Satan is the hero.

Whoopi Goldberg as God?    There's a thought!

I'd rather go back to Hermione Gingold, if she were still around!

Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, which is inspired by Paradise Lost, is being adapted for the screen. "His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass" is said to be due out in 2007.

However, I see that according to this site as of late 2004 --
'Filmmakers are adapting Philip Pullman's fantasy trilogy His Dark Materials, in which two children do battle with an evil, all-powerful church, to remove anti-religious overtones, The Times of London reported. Chris Weitz, the director, has horrified fans by announcing that references to the church are likely to be banished in his film. Meanwhile the "Authority," the weak God figure, will become "any arbitrary establishment that curtails the freedom of the individual," the newspaper reported.'

The trilogy loses its entire point without it. I didn't think it could be done right. Hate to be proven right on that, though.

Hey, Alanis Morissette played God in "Dogma" and did a darn good job of it, I think, considering she didn't have to speak, let alone sing.

Becky--

I'm with you. The horror! The horror! All Philip's beautifully daring, subversively honest work eviscerated! Argh!

I'm just trying to cross my fingers and chant, "Ommmm...they've got a new director....maybe it won't be so bad..."

Molly
