I've been haunted by a song from very early in the 60s. I heard it on the radio (the BBC Light Programme as it was - popular music and such) once only, but it had a chorus which started "West of the wall" - or that's what it sounded like. It was sung by a woman and had a very cheerfull bouncy tune, a bit country-ish. I've never found anyone who's heard of it yet.

Steve, I've been away for a week and surprised that you have not received the lyrics to what I thought was a well known sing. It was relaesed about the time of the Berlin crisis. I have the lyrics but it will take me 48 hours to access them.

West of the wall I'll wait for you,

I sure hope you can find the lyrics, John. I lived in Berlin for a couple of years, 1972-73, when there was a wall there. I vaguely recall the song - I think it was from the 1960's - and I've often wished I had paid more attention to the lyrics. I looked for the song in my fakebooks, but couldn't find it.

Well I've done some internet searching and found out that it was sung by Toni Fisher in 1962. I can't find the lyrics on the net but someone may have a copy of a recording. I remember the song, and I liked the singer's strong voice. I haven't heard it played on the radio etc for at least a couple of decades.

This was played on the BBC a couple of weeks ago, in a series called Sounds of the 20th Century. More info Bit of a spine-tingling moment.
