Subject: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Rapparee Date: 25 May 06 - 09:22 AM Wow! What an unexpected development -- Uruguay's Malinov tossed from the test for bluelining Symms of Christchurch. Apparently Symms crossed the T and after snaffling off to M'Andrew was bluelined by Malinov -- the Umpire saw it (hard to miss!) and called Malinov Out. This is gonna hurt Uruguay if the appeal is denied and, from the video, it should be. The bluelining was absolutely egregious and blatant, the sort of thing that the Out was supposed to prevent. Symms is in bad condition at hospital, but they say she'll be okay by next week and might even be able to participate in the Seventh Test. This would be good, because Christchurch needs a good Nester like Symms in the Southwest if they're going to have any chance at all for the Cup. |

Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Peace Date: 25 May 06 - 10:26 AM I just read about this, Rapaire. Nasty development. Without Symms in the Seventh Test, they are hooped (pardon me mixing the metaphor there). Canada's Prime Minister was supposed to be attending the game, but with the possibility of Symms being out, it's likely he won't go. You're just full of good news, aren't you?! |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Peace Date: 25 May 06 - 10:28 AM e t r: The bluelining of Symms was caught on video. It's worse than the Nixon tapes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Dave Hanson Date: 25 May 06 - 10:29 AM I'm still none the wiser. eric |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Rapparee Date: 25 May 06 - 12:04 PM Yes, it is. And that business with Wayne Nixon was bad enough, poor old Standings nearly died in that. Certainly ruined his career, what with the punctured lung and all. I can't believe that Nixon only got a Blue Ticket out of it, but of course he had to leave the League after that. Shivving is not nice, not at all, and I agree with those who think that shivvers should be blunted. I understand that Symms is out of hospital, but in a temporary cast from his hips down. Good thing Life Flight was handy! |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Peace Date: 25 May 06 - 12:17 PM Symms had a sex change while in the hospital I notice. This new development will 'rock' the world of sport. Which changing room, which bathroom. Gonna be a bloody disaster. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Little Hawk Date: 25 May 06 - 12:56 PM I have always felt that the introduction of hamsters into this sport would improve it tremendously. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Rapparee Date: 25 May 06 - 01:15 PM Symm's sex change was the result of my typos. Unless Malinov bluelined with his stick, and if he did it's not on the video. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Peace Date: 25 May 06 - 02:01 PM The most unkindliest cut of all. However, if it goes into overtime, the results could change the future of the game as we know it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Rapparee Date: 25 May 06 - 02:06 PM You know, LH's suggestions about hamsters was meant facieously I'm sure, but there is the play called "hamstering". It's not used much, but when it is it's spectacular. Darby used it to beat Cologne back in '87, but I don't think it's been used since because if you blow it, you'll lose big. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Little Hawk Date: 25 May 06 - 02:23 PM Hamstering is usually pretty effective. No doubt about it. ;-) Another thing that will improve almost any sport is to replace the human refs and judges with chimps. Matter of fact, this is something worth thinking about in the political arena as well, I think. The time has come to pass the torch... |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Mingulay Date: 25 May 06 - 03:37 PM I'm glad I live in my own little world. The one that Rap and LH seem to inhabit is mighty scary. Goes off to bowl a maiden over, stand in the slips, move to silly mid-off, then finally take a tickle in the gully and watch as the umpire puts his finger up. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Peace Date: 25 May 06 - 04:14 PM YOU have the hang of the game, Mingulay. However, there is no gully in the game. You are confusing it with the kitchen of a ship. |

Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: GUEST,Mercy Symms Date: 25 May 06 - 06:35 PM Hi! Just wanted to let you all know that I'm fine, doing great in fact. I should be out of the walking casts and back blacksticking in time for the Test next Monday. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: GUEST,Mingulay at work Date: 26 May 06 - 04:09 AM Peace, the gully on my boat is called a galley, you seem to have a problem with terminology there. There is not enough room for bluelining but I have been known to flipsiddle during the last half of the first quarter if no timeout is called. Does the Test winner go on to the World Series, or are Iceland and the Faroe Islands not included at this minor level? |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Rapparee Date: 26 May 06 - 08:47 AM The team goes to the World Semicentenaries (this year in Klaksvik), where they'll play cross-courts. You'll remember that they play cross-court so that two competitions can proceed at the same time ever since the Carcross Fiasco back in 1937. |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Amos Date: 26 May 06 - 09:20 AM Damn, I missed this. Nothing more interesting or straining on the neck than trying to keep up with the cross-court version. My grandfather, who actually sat in at Carcross, says it's an awful solution and took all the sand out of the game, whatever that means. I really think they should have started Rooney, though. It would have changed the third fifth if nothing else, and that could have made all the difference. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Amos Date: 26 May 06 - 09:38 AM I know you guys were joking about the sex change thing, but it brings to mind that there actually was a guy -- Rex Beers -- played for Putney in the Eastern IIRC. He was well-known as a back-line protector because of his mastery of the return. Ended up becoming Regina, and doing radio commentary. All kinds of nasty remarks were made about him/her. But she just carried on as well off the field as she had on it. No-one has ever said bluelining was the start of it, but I suppose it is possible. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Amos Date: 26 May 06 - 10:38 AM I remember also hearing that Rex/Regina left under a cloud. A rumor was about at the time that he had used a hidden sur during competition, a practice that has been outlawed for some time. It was never proven, though. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: GUEST,Mingulay at work Date: 26 May 06 - 10:51 AM Be no good starting Rooney cross court, he's no experience and the grain would be against him. After all he's long court player and has his mind set on those markings. Weltstepper or no he was totally gumswoggled when he saw footage of the '37 fiasco and had to be led away to a darkened room. 'Aint no use giving a man's job to a boy. By the way, are the Semicentenaries in Octember again this year? |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Peace Date: 26 May 06 - 10:57 AM "but I have been known to flipsiddle during the last half of the first quarter if no timeout is called." Mingulay, doesn't that tire you out a little? I flipsiddle a few times when I was a teenager, but never before the half time. |

Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: GUEST,Mingulay at work Date: 26 May 06 - 11:54 AM Sorry about that folks, it's called idiocy. Peace, yes it is tiring if taken to excess and only performed after the first half. You may have noticed yourself that the elastic bands have a tendency to tighten as the game goes on thus restricting movement. Never ever try it cross court. |

Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Rapparee Date: 26 May 06 - 12:39 PM Our coach back in high school told us that if we flipsiddled too much we'd go blind, but we were pretty sure he was joking. Then Adkins did go blind, back in '67 I think it was, playing half-end for Gander semi-pro team and I think half the teenagers in the world lay awake all night worrying about incipient blindness! |
Subject: RE: BS: Malinov bluelines Symms in today's test! From: Peace Date: 26 May 06 - 01:15 PM We were only allowed to flipsiddle until we needed glasses. (Don't lend your glasses to Bobert. He was wearing them when he was whackin' his weed and he scratched them all up. |
