Albion Club Whitby

I've just got in from Cleethorpes festival and have unsuccessfully searched this site to find a reference to the demolition of the Albion Club at Whitby, which someone told me had been posted recently. Has it really been demolished?

Yes, gone I'm afraid. I was up there around 2 weeks ago, when it was just a hole in the ground, with strange voices coming out of it.

The replacement building is to be flats, I understand, don't know whether they will come up for letting.

This is actually scheduled to happen to the Winter Gardens at Cleethorpes as well - which is of course the home of Cleethorpes Folk Fest. Replacing pubs and entertainment venues with six story blocks of flats aimed at the retired and wealthy seems to be the thing at present in our seaside towns, and folk music is one of the many things losing out as a result as the property developers get rich.
