Subject: BS: Big Brother 2006 From: The Shambles Date: 06 Jun 06 - 11:36 AM http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother/ I have come to the conclusion that Big Brother is a win - win for everyone. The makers laugh all the way to the bank - the housemates get their moment of fame - those who watch are entertained and those who do not watch can sit back and judge everyone else. There is a certain amount of snobbery involved but if you can see beyond this and the judgement - what you have on one level is a real-life soap opera without a script and actors that we can all gossip about and have an opinion on. But on another level and if you are honest - you can see all of your own good and not so good attributes displayed and learn about many things that you may not in the normal course of your life. For example last night a female porn star and a gay man were explaining the finer points of fellatio. I am not sure if or when I may find a use for such information but it is difficult to see where else you would be likely to get such information - from the horses mouth - so to speak. It does give viewers opportunities to better understand cultures they may not have any personal experiences of. This time there is a hosemate with Tourette's Syndrome. I have found out a lot about this condition from watching Big Brother. A view shared by an expert on the subject who was watching also. Which as long as it and the individual concerned is not exploited - must be good thing. |

For one task - a housemate was being interviewed for a job. When asked to provide one of their best attributes - there was a blank look at the camera and a long pause before the answer was finally provided (in a very heavy Welsh accent). The one word answer was 'communication'. The same housemate was listing the life skills that he had learned since being in the house. Using the washing machine, being able to do beans on toast, making sandwiches, cooking pasta and boiling an egg, were listed. The job Big Brother provided for this housemate to best demonstrate his communcation skills was as the cook............ |

Subject: RE: BS: Big Brother 2006 From: The Shambles Date: 08 Jun 06 - 05:03 AM The housemates (despite watching earlier editition) are still under the impression that they have some control, that their judgement of their fellow housemates is what matters and that they can maintain some form of preconceived game-plan or keep up some kind of an act for 3 months. The truth is that as viewers will see and hear everything - they will not be fooled by any of this. And it is only the viewers judgement that matters. For no matter how many times an internally unpopular housemate is nominated - they will remain in the house if the public wish it. When the results are announced you hear housemates saying things about the public (who have not voted out the housemates choice) like 'they just don't see what is going on in here'. The truth is that the public see only too well..... The show tends to restore my faith in the better aspects of human nature, in that although we may not be able to vote our political bullies out of office before they do too much damage, that we do seem to ensure at least that the Big Brother bullies do not prosper. The current favourite to win was recently seen to be horrified when another killed a bee. He later explained his love of all living things and as this was perfectly genuine, only confirmed him as hot favourite. He will win - provided of course that he does not choose to walk out before the end......... |

Do you think that all of the balls had the number 14 on them? During this process - the housemates heard the public outside chanting to get one of them out. This was mainly because the show has shown them to be what most of their fellow housemates seem to miss - that they are most nasty two-faced back-stabbing bitch in there. But as usual the housemate concerned gets upset, dreads facing the crowd's reaction and claims not to understand the reason why the viewers should find them so unpopular. Speculating on all the possible reasons why and missing the rather obvious one....... |

I favour gloss to watch, it can form some interesting and attractive patterns if you've ladled it on too thickly and it forms dribbles. Magnolia changes shade as it dries, so you know when it's done.... then you can apply the top coat of any other freakin' colour so long as it's not sodding magnolia! (True story ~ my disabled mother had the external woodwork on her house decorated by the council - the workman said 'any colour you like just so long as it's not bloody magnolia; we've done 63 houses in this area and every single one of the buggers wanted magnolia! I still chuckle when I remember from a past show where Victor and Jason were very upset and plotting vicious revenge together but being totally oblivious of the effect of this coming from the two of them dressed up as and sitting about in full jolly clown make-up but with steam coming out of their ears. There are always lessons for us all and the wider world to learn from such shows. Perhaps N.I and Middle East peace talks and other confrontations should be conducted only after all particpants have been to the 'dress-up' box? |

"No charges have yet been laid - Police say no complaint has yet been lodged." Still no change there. And now the Pollies have jumped in - since the QLD Govt gives a substantial cash incentive to the makers (making jobs you know!), there is now much pressure to cease that, and even shut down the show, as it 'puts people under pressure to behave in a bad manner for reward'. |

Channel 10 keeps saying that the guys did nothing 'wrong', but also keeps saying that the two guys were expelled for 'breaking the rules'... I'm confused... if they 'did nothing wrong', why were they expelled? Incidentally, a couple of days before, the same girl had been told by BB that she had to kiss al the guys on the mouth within a certain time - apparently some authorities claim that the forcing of an unwanted kiss is 'sexual assault'. And the lone member in Parliament (who holds the balance of power) of The Family First Party has said that such behaviour televised into the home influences the young to think that such contrived behaviour is 'normal'. So now all the competing commercial TV stations have aired the footage - it took place at 3 am in the morning, broadcast live only via the web site, and it shows the giggling lady accepting an invitation into the bed shared by the two guys, and receiving a 'turkey slap' from one of the guys... You don't know what that is? I ain't gonna say, but here's a hint... "gobble, gobble"... |
