What's Become of John Whelan?

Does anyone know what's become of button accordion player John Whelan? His web site has been suspended and I haven't seen any word of him touring for quite some time. I heard that he had some phyical problems a while back. Hope nothing is seriously wrong.

Jo,

I went to an Irish session in a pub about two months ago that John was leading. He said he had had some medical problems but was feeling much better. His playing sounded fine. He may have mentioned other things that he was doing, but I don't recall them right now. (Perhaps leading a session in Connecticut?) At any rate, he's definitely still involved with the music.

As far as I know, John still lives in Milford, CT. His old site is gone, but here's another one: http://www.shamrockirishmusic.org/id37.html. He's a wonderful musician and nice guy.

So many musicians called John Whelan - the one I know plays banjo with the Buffalo Gals from Bath and is married to fiddler Kate Lissauer.
