I had a session with my speech therapist the other day, and he gave me considerable hope that my voice will return. In the process of doing the exercises, I sang a long clear note, (A or maybe Bb, I don't have perfect pitch)!

According to him, when the true vocal cords failed due to the removal of a piece of one of them, the false cords took over, and they are not able to do the same job. Now they are firmly in charge, producing growls, and reluctant to give over to the real cords which could do their job if the false cords would back off.
My regular ENT says that the damaged cord has grown back to within a millimeter of completly filling in the gap which was produced by the removal of the cancer.

So, with considerable work and exercise, I should be able to sing again!

Good news! You've certainly got the motivation to recapture the repaired vocal chords.

However, excercising them by shouting at out-of-state motorists is probably not the best therapy. Try to address them in more dulcet tones.

It's not Kendall the Duck. Its a duck with a leprechaun bear riding it thatdoes a dance and plays a tune and is irritating as hell. I am however looking forward to seeing the "Joint Concert".......My gawd, what a sight!!! Not a real pleasant one, but at least entertaining...........

Interesting challenge, I gotta say ; they say today's singers don't articulate the words of songs as well as was the style in the old days... ya gotta wonder how that works in a joint concert...
