Subject: An American Traditional Music Forum? From: GUEST Date: 07 Jul 06 - 01:54 PM The thread I refreshed yesterday got me thinking, and sent me searching, to no avail. There is no Usenet newsgroup, mailing list, or web forum I have been able to find for the discussion of North American traditional music. Wouldn't it be great if there were a forum for the discussion of the many traditional music cultures of North America? There are plenty of forums that discuss some aspect of particular music cultures. There are forums that discuss guitar, fiddle, etc. There are forums that exchange midis, chords, abc's, etc. There are newsgroups and lists for British Isles and Irish influenced American music. There are old time lists. There are contemporary acoustic music forums. But no big tent where a person can go to find out about or discuss Zydeco, Tejano, old time, polka music, Klezmer, gospel, blues, pow wow music, etc. Something more than what currently dominates the online North American 'folk' which is either Anglo-Celtic or contemporary acoustic stuff. A big Chatauqua sort of tent, only racially and culturally integrated, and without the religion. |
