Subject: maybe it's the Quotation Marks
From: Joe Offer
Date: 23 Feb 99 - 12:09 PM

Super Sleuth Joe Offer is still on a quest for the culprit in the Case of the Truncated Thread Title. The current suspect is those pesky Quotation Marks people put in thread titles, but maybe it's just the curly quotes that cause trouble.

Aha!

the culprit has been apprehended. Quote marks in thread titles used to cause problems - now they make a REAL mess. Apostrophes work, though, as you can see in the title of this thread.

This is a test of "quotation marks." The previous were "double," and these are 'single.' Isn't this a hassle?
Hey, it worked this time! I had problems pasting in a document with quotes a day or two ago, and now it seems to work. I wonder if Max & Mike changed something, or if I did something different.
It's definite, though, that there's a problem with even regular quotation marks in thread titles.
Let's use this thread for testing any posting problems people might have. I'll delete it when all the problems have gone away.

in the subject I typed:

ok..I'll try one.."special" test *very*

(I'm sure Max & Miker must have a copy of the code that used to work...??)

G'day Joe,

I have found that in other email contexts (especially items sent to Aus-Worldfolk, here in Australia) 'Smart Quotes' - the automatically mirroring feature in late model word-processors - carry some glitch that can cause all sorts of formatting grief.

Now, when I pre-type an item, I do so in lower-powered applets like NotePad or WordPad and the problems don't seem to occur.

Regards,

Bob Bolton

I got an e-mail from Mike Rogosky, Max's trusty sidekick, and he says that he thinks he can fix the quote mark problem in the titles the same way he did it in the messages yesterday. Let's hope it works.
By the way, Mike and Max - please don't forget how much we appreciate all the work you do for us. We think you're both grand.
