Alfred Hitchcock didn't have a belly button. It was eliminated when he was sewn up after surgery.

Both WordNet and the Collaborative Online Dictionary list gullible - didn't bother with the hardcover copy but the OED must have it.

If you take cranberries and stew them like prunes, they taste much more like applesauce than rhubarb does.........Groucho as Captain Spalding.

Dog saliva contains fewer pathogens per millilitre than human saliva. HOWEVER the pathogens it does contain tend to be the ones which cause severe illness/disability in humans.

The practical upshot of this is that you still should not kiss your dog!

"In the average lifetime a person will breath in about 44 pounds of dust."

And you wondered where our farmland is going?

Say with 330,000,000 people in North America (give or take a few million), that means that people are taking away 7,260,000 TONS of arable land. Man oh man, like what is THAT about, huh?

That is an interesting fact. It is also another interesting fact that you are not on the off topic thread. This is an on topic thread, the topic of which is whatever you want it to be.

If you put a ball of aluminum foil in the tableware/flatware/silver ware soaking bucket it helps keep it shiny.

The 'regular' ice is NOT from pure water but the bar ice is.

Are we off topic yet???

The "human genome" which has recently been sequenced consists of a very long string of four molecules. If the molecules are "named" by binary numbers, 00, 01, 10, 11, the entire record of all the genetic information for a "typical human" can be written as a binary data record consisting of a long string of 01100101011... etc.

Written as a single binary data string (also a perfectly acceptable concept) Windows XP is a longer string (i.e. contains more data) ... I've been told.

The author who made the claim may have exaggerated, but I'm too lazy to check it out. Anyone sufficiently interested is welcome to look up the figures.

John

"The volume of the Earth's moon is the same as the volume of the Pacific Ocean."

This one I do not understand. I have heard the Pacific Ocean washing up on a California beach, and it can be really loud. Besides, I didn't think that sound carried on the moon where there is no air.

That's 87,600,000 pots of coffee a year. That's LOTS.
