I've been meditating on the problems of the Brits in the six counties, the conquest of the Americas (Manifest Destiny, etc.), the Israelis in Israel, human migrations of all sorts. This is a truth: If you were conceived here on this Earth and born into this world you have every right to be here- same as anybody else. Societies into which we are born also have a right to mediate and mitigate the rights of indivduals for the benefit and continuation of that society in regards to whatever special circumstances the environment may hold. It was suggested in another thread that the interlopers (for want of a better term) be made to return to from where they came. The Belfast Brits back to England, the Jews back to, What? Ur of the Chaldees?? If that were the solution there would be standing room only at the eastern gate to the Garden of Eden.

The particulars of any given situation are always complex and it is always individual human beings who wind up doing the suffering. Right now I'm thinking about the 5000 year old family feud that is going on in the Middle East. The country of Israel is only half the size of San Bernardino Co. here in California. It's smaller than Kern Co. where I was born and raised. The Arab countries which surround tiny Israel have hundreds of thousands of square miles of territory. I see many possible solutions for reasonable people to consider. Do you? In the Bible it says "Come, let us reason together" Sounds like a plan to me. Who is being unreasonable? Time for a "Time Out" for naughty children?

When hatred is the sole motivating force your going to accomplish nothing but bringing about more human misery. And when your attacked your choices are to defend or roll over and die. Remember what I said in the start? If you are born into this world you have every right to be here. I doesn't get more basic than that!

And by way of a little foot note: Look what has happened in large part to the Democratic party in the US which has allowed itself to be motivated purely by hatred for GW Bush and/or the Republican party. They are now a party bereft of ideas and vision. Its "get Bush at any cost." You Dems have made many good contributions to this nation of ours. An open and honest debate, a search for some common ground or at least some rules for a fair fight would be a welcome relief for a lot of traditional Democrats who hate all the choices on the ballot. And believe it or not a lot of Republicans feel the same way. We can't go home. We are home. And we can't go back. Forwrd is the only direction open to us and together is the best way.

Unfortunately there are many who believe that some do not have as much right to be here as others.

What do the reasonable do about the unreasonable?
