How do you pronounce "Keinton" ? AY or ee?

Also I guess "Brainford" is like 'brain' in your head?

As far as the pronunciation of place names goes, you have to ask the folks who live there. Everyone else gets them wrong.

The Battle of Edgehill was the first pitched battle of the Civil War, the nearby village is KINETON, Warwickshire ~ (as in MINE).

Not five miles away from here, there's a hamlet called Gotham. How do you pronounce it? Like Goth-am Batman? Goat-am? Go- tham? Got-am? I've asked people from close by, and even they come up with different answers.

But I think Selchie's suggestion is best.

last time I was in the area the road sign outside the village said Kineton and it was prounounced as Selchie has it.

It probably is Kineton, but there is a Keinton Mandeville in Somerset. No idea how they pronounce it, and it seems to have no Civil War connection.

And where's Brainford? Google maps can't find it in UK.

Answered my own question - "Brainford" is nowadays called Brentford

And according to this legend (page 29 &f) Kineton was spelled as Keinton in former times.

It is Kineton, Warks, I work there, but I'm afraid I don't know the old world pronuncation for it.

However Wikipedia suggests Kington originally ~

The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Kington.
