Subject: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: Zany Mouse Date: 15 Aug 06 - 08:41 PM I know your catters can find just about anything so here is a request which is nothing whatsoever to do with music or folkiness. I'm looking for a pattern dating back to the late 60s or early 70s. It's a booklet (quite a few pages as I remember) and had a pattern for a floor rug which is a dark brown circle with a circle of flowers. An absolute delight. There may have been a matching footstool pattern to go with it. I THINK it might be from Twilleys of Stamford, although they say they don't know the book at all, but again this is from a memory of 30 years ago. Many thanks Rhiannon |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 15 Aug 06 - 09:38 PM What material is this rug made from? I can't help with that pattern, but I inherited a bunch of braided rug materials from my mother (via my sister who was cleaning out her basement and stuck it in the mail to move it out of her house). Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: leeneia Date: 16 Aug 06 - 09:44 AM I believe that this would be called a hooked rug. Search the Internet for hooked rug patterns and see what you find. |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: Zany Mouse Date: 16 Aug 06 - 11:27 AM It's not a hooked rug but a sewn rug. Thanks for your input anyway. I have tried a search but it didn't come with anything useful. Thanks Rhiannon |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Aug 06 - 11:57 AM In the last year Martha Stewart Living ran an article on using denim in various household things like bed coverlets and rugs. The rugs were beautiful. It would take a lot of ripping or cutting to get the strips, and a lot of sewing to piece it together, but they looked like they'd last a long time. I'll go look for the citation if anyone is interested. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: Helen Date: 16 Aug 06 - 05:14 PM Zany Mouse, Was it like needlepoint or needlepoint tapestry but on a larger scale, which might be called gros point, but I'm not sure? You could try searching the secndhand book sites e.g. this search for the word "rugs" Used books at Biblio.com and then change the search terms e.g. rugmaking, etc. There are lots of secondhand book dealers listing their stock on sites like the used book sections of Barnes and Noble and Amazon. You could even look up eBay. Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: leeneia Date: 16 Aug 06 - 05:41 PM I'm not familiar with a sewn rug. Might the term "applique" help? |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: Zany Mouse Date: 17 Aug 06 - 06:01 AM Hi I'm not very good as describing things but this is much larger than gros point. It is stitched in either cross stitch or tent stitch (half of cross stitch). The booklet has quite a few projects in it, quite a few of which I have stitched, and I'm fairly certain has the rug, and possibly the footstool, on the front. It's very elegant with a slight Victorian feel to it. Many thanks for the links, which I'm about to try. Thanks also for the time and effort you have put into this. Mudcat strikes again!! {{{{{ Catters }}}}} Rhiannon |

Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a craft pattern From: Helen Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:07 PM Hi again, Try searching abebooks or the other secondhand books sites or Google with the term stitched rugs Use double quotes around the words in Google to get it to search as a phrase. I hope you find it. Helen |
