Consumers WON'T BE AWARE that meat and poultry products have been treated with the spray, Zajac added. The Department of Agriculture will regulate the actual use of the product....

Seems to me that knowing which foods they have been sprayed on (luncheon meats for example) will help allow people to avoid them. I must admit, however, that those sliced and plastic-packed luncheon meats taste like shit anyway, so avoiding them should be no hardship.

Well, seemes that the food supply contiues to get funkier and funkier... I recently read that their are coporartions that own patents on "geneticly modified oganisms" (GMO's in the trade) which are used in the production of many commercially grown veggies...

Now here's a starnge fact about these GMO's... If I grow corn without the GMO's but a bee who has visited another farm that uses them flies into my cornfield and polinates my corn with my neighbors corn I can be sued and have to pay the GMO corporation??? That's a true story which has absolutely nuthin' to do with this thread but I didn't think a thread strictly about GMO's would get too far...

There's ALREADY bacteria on your food. There's bacteria in your tummy. You can't get away from bacteria and if you did manage it you'd die. You also can't escape viruses, rickettesia, prions, or anything else.

This is being done by Intralytex, an international corporation. Europe has avoided genetically modified foods, or tried to, while the U.S. has been flooded with them. But now Europe will now be poisoned too. And the "prepared meats" are just the beginning. And this virus coctail is just the beginning. This spray will be made in the same plants that mix vaccines...live virus cultures of all the nasty diseases you can think of. Contamination with AIDS, etc. WILL occur, and the FDA just issued a statement that it can't be sued for any of its approvals. The company, Intralytex, is connected to DARPA of Homeland Security. We're being set up for extermination by the US govt. The US govt is headed by puppets of international corporation. Bill Gates is onboard passing out sterilization vaccines to Africans with his new foundation grants, and Mr. Queen Elizabeth has said he wants 90% of us dead. Hang the Windsor/Saxe-Coburgs and try Bush/Clinton for treason. Only way to stop this.

SINSULL, according to the article that the first Anonymous.GUEST pointed to, the special viruses called bacteriophages are meant to kill strains of the Listeria monocytogenes bacterium, the Food and Drug Administration said in declaring it safe to use on ready-to-eat meats prior to their packaging. The bacterium the viruses target can cause a serious infection called listeriosis, primarily in pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems.

It's possible that allowing meat packing companies to be laxer with hygiene will benefit the consumer. If only by allowing the companies to make bigger profits so meat doesn't disappear from the shop shelves.

I suppose there's no possibility of the phages being eaten with the food, mopping up all the wysteria or listerine or whatever, getting bored when there's none left, and taking a bite out of the beneficial gut bacteria?

Thalidomide was a great drug to treat morning sickness in pregnant women. Unfortunately . . . .

Seriously, if you're really concerned either stop eating meat or insure that yours is not "poisoned" by shooting your own game, growing and slaughtering your own animals, or buying only meat from "free range", grass-fed animals.

I, for one, don't eat cold cuts anyway so I'm not too worried about it. But to play devil's advocate, it has been suggested and I do believe to an extent that the reason there are so many more allergies and things in recent years is because we've tried to create too sterile an environment. Some viruses and bacteria help boost the immune system.

I wouldn't trust game not to poison me. Lord knows what sort of toxins they've been eating that ran off of fields or drinking out of the water. Nature ain't what it used to be.
