Subject: Lyrics-I had a duck and that duckie died,
From: CLK37@WEBTV.NET

I am looking for a song my Grandmother use to sing to me when I was a little girl. It went something like this: I had a duck and that little duckie died, I put her eggs under a hen and she seemed satisfied.

This is all I can remember, does anyone know the title, or where I may find the lyrics. Thank you for any help you can give me

I am refreshing this old request that never got so much as a reply nearly 9 years ago.

Clk37 repeated the request a few days later (with slightly different words: "poor duckie" and "them eggs") and still got no response.

I've done a Google search and came up with nothing about a song; however, Penny Cyclopaedia of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, 1840, says that putting duck eggs under a hen was a common practice.

Jim, I am finding some stuff when I Google

"I had a little duck", duckie, died

'I had a duck and that duckie died' doesn't really scan.

The only duck thing I ever heard ended "I got a fuck for a duck, a duck for a fuck and 2 bucks for a fucked up duck!" ......or something like that.

I can't see Granny singing it, but it does scan well Bruce.......................

"I had a duck and the young duck died" is given as a quote from Archibald Stodart-Walker in the 1986 Poetry Index. I can't find the exact source though.
