Subject: Motorcycle song lyrics From: Date: 28 Feb 99 - 07:35 PM Song I learned (and have since forgotten) in the mid1960s that went something like this: If there's one thing that I like It's a burn up on my bike A burn up with a bird up on my bike Now the M1 ain't much fun 'Til you try and do the ton A burn up with my bird that's what I like. All I know about the song is that it was British (obviously) and involved the clash between Mods and Rockers that was going on over there in 1960s Thanks for any help |

Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: Wotcha Date: 28 Feb 99 - 08:30 PM Chris Spedding did a pre-punk (1975) one-off song called "Motor Bikin' " that appeared on his 1976 album ("Chris Spedding," RAK/EMI label). But it is not what you are looking for though. |
Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: Will (inactive) Date: 28 Feb 99 - 08:55 PM Tim, I don't think its on Quadrophenia. It doesn't ring any bells and a quick skim of the lyrics in the CD liner notes doesn't add any chimes. Continuing the elimination process, it's not Arlo Guthrie, either ("I don't want a pickle, just wanna ride on my motor-cickle").

Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: Date: 28 Feb 99 - 09:45 PM In the mid-1950s a rock group, THE CHEERS, had a song titled (something like) "He Wore Black Denim Trousers" or "the Terror of HiWay 101", whatever. The chorus went (again somehing like) "He wore a black denim trousers and motorcycle boots/And a black leater jacket with an eagle on the back./He rode a hopped up cycle [short Y] that took off like a gun/That fool was the terror of Highway 101." Bert Convy, later a TV game show host, was a Cheer.--John (not Jon) |

Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: Martin _Ryan Date: 01 Mar 99 - 11:23 AM In the dark recesses of my brain, I hear a cockney voice singing this one. It wasn't (early) Joe Cocker, but it was somepone not a million miles away, in style, I think. |
Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: Tim Jaques tjaques@netcom.ca Date: 01 Mar 99 - 07:16 PM The song I am thinking of by The Who starts, I think, "Some men think I'm green/I've seen things you've never seen" blah blah,I'll take on anyone/ Ain't scared of a bloody nose. The lyrics above seem to fit the tune as I remember it. Dr. somebody and Mr. Somebody or other? It has been many many years since I have heard Quadrophenia. Certainly the album is about Mods and Rockers. |
Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: Date: 01 Mar 99 - 08:56 PM Earl--I would truly love to hear Edith Piaf's version of "Black Denim Trousers" if it is the same song. Seems it would be a hoot to hear-and I don't mean hootennanny. Do you know where it might be found?---John (not Jon) |
Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: The Shambles Date: 02 Mar 99 - 03:12 AM The song I remember being sung in the early 60s by Joe Brown, he of the spiky hair and a great musician as well, but if it was the original version, I'm not sure. |

Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: RLP - Original questionner Date: 02 Mar 99 - 10:19 PM No, it's not The Cheer song, nor The Who, nor Arlo Guthrie (who did the just want to ride on my motorcy-cle) nor Bob Dylan's Motorcycle Nightmare. It was, however, definitely British, definitely mid-60s when I heard it. To all of you who replied, thanx very much. Still would be interested in the lyrics, tho ... |
Subject: RE: Motorcycle song lyrics From: RWilhelm Date: 04 Mar 99 - 09:58 AM jon hindsill, I haven't actually heard the Edith Piaf version but it is available in a CD boxed set called "30th Anniversaire." It is mentioned in the liner notes of the Leiber & Stoller compilation called "There's a Riot Going On!" (which includes the Cheers' version.) She titled it "L'Homme A La Moto" and supposedly sang it very seriously. |

Subject: Lyr Add: JUST FOR KICKS (Mike Sarne) From: GUEST,guest Date: 10 Sep 09 - 07:07 PM found this while looking up bike lyrics for a funeral - only 2 years too late guys. Just for kicks was written in 1963 by a bloke called Mike Sarne. Here are all the words. If there's one thing that I like It's a burn up on my bike A burn up with a bird up on my bike Now the M1 ain't much fun Till you try and do a ton A burn up on my bike, that's what I like Just for kicks, I ride all through the night My bird hangs on in fright When I do the ton for kicks When my bird decides to turn up I'm off to have a burn up A burn up with a bird up on my bike When I pass a little scooter I blast him with my hooter A burn up on my bike, that's what I like Just for kicks, I ride all through the night My bird hangs on in fright When I do the ton for kicks We meet the other ton-up boys at Fred's Cave every night We just drop in to see the birds and sometimes have a bite We spend a couple of hours just tunin' our machines With our black leather jackets and our oily greasy jeans If there's one thing that I like It's a burn up on my bike A burn up with a bird up on my bike Now the M1 ain't much fun Till you try and do a ton A burn up on my bike, that's what I like Just for kicks, I ride all through the night My bird hangs on in fright When I do the ton for kicks Just for kicks, I ride all through the night My bird hangs on in fright When I do the ton for kicks |
