Subject: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: number 6 Date: 28 Aug 06 - 10:51 PM In it's general semantic meaning an anarchist is one who beleives that all forms of rulership are undesirable and should be abolished .... imposed authority is undesirable and unnecessary. Sounds ok to me ... but the idea of a society without leaders would never work. sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: M.Ted Date: 29 Aug 06 - 01:07 AM I am an anarchist, of sorts, not through choice--it seems to be a an aspect of my personality that I always to try to knock the king of the hill back down where he belongs-- the opressive tendencies of "leaders" and "authorities"have always seemed to me to be one of the primary causes of misery--one might argue that leadership is necessary, but leaders always seem to try to grab hold of more and bigger things than they are needed for--and they are disinclined to let go, even when it is clear that they should-- |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: robomatic Date: 29 Aug 06 - 08:01 AM Are you an antichrist? I work among a lot of bible-belters, hence I got some puzzled frowns when I was expressing my opposition to one of the local political leaders- "He's the antichrist, and I mean that in the bad way!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 29 Aug 06 - 08:58 AM Once groups of human beings exceed approx 30 in number, you need a leader, and that's where all of humanity's problems start... There's a shortage of good leaders.... you can't get the wood you know! |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: Jeri Date: 29 Aug 06 - 10:50 AM I think the ideal form of government IS anarchy. (There's an oxymoron for ya!) We're humans, we're social, so that means SOME sort of structure/pecking order within the groups we're part of, but each group takes care of its own and no overall government tells these groups how to operate. Anarchy, however, requires a level of maturity people aren't usually capable of. It requires self discipline, and respect for people, and the ability to not try to eliminate other viewpoints. In short, it requires people to first govern themselves. I don't see that happening anytime this century. For the record, I think labeling myself would be idiotic. Sometimes I'm a liberal, sometimes a conservative. Sometimes I'm a capitalist and sometimes a communist. I have anarchist ideals, but a democratic practicality. I don't have a label and I don't have to behave according to the 'rules' for that label. Makes it kind of hard to predict what I think or stereotype me. About the only think I'll call myself consistently is an idealistic realist. |
Subject: RE: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: GUEST,mack/misophist Date: 29 Aug 06 - 11:09 AM Anarchy is more complicated than most people think. I once had a friend who spent 7 years in Italy, studying anarchist political thought. It's similar to communism but uncentralized. |

Subject: RE: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: GUEST,KB Date: 30 Aug 06 - 01:56 PM My brother used to tend bar. One evening a mutual friend was in hovering over his beer. This fellow was rambling on about society and he decided that anarchy was the answer. My brother asked what he would do if it actually came to that. The fellow said he would just sit there drinking beer. My brother asked "Who will get you the beer?" |
Subject: RE: BS: Are you an Anarchist From: GUEST,282RA Date: 30 Aug 06 - 04:33 PM That isn't really what anarchy is about. Anarchy as touted by idealists holds that you don't need laws to govern your own behavior. You're a either a decent person or you're not. Laws have no effect on indecent people and therefore serve only to hamper the decent ones. So who will get the guy's beer? Your brother, if he wants to stay in business. |
