Subject: BS: Make up your mind From: kendall Date: 01 Sep 06 - 07:28 AM A few days ago, at a press conference, Mr Bush was asked point blank, "What did Iraq have to do with 9/11"? His answer, "Nothing." Yesterday in a speech he is back talking up his war, and making a connection between Iraq and terrorism. Which is it Mr. Bush? |

Subject: RE: BS: Make up your mind From: Amos Date: 01 Sep 06 - 10:31 AM I think his position is that while Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, it did make a bully sand-pit for staging the war on terror in, drawing enemy troops from thousands of remote locations to one central theater. I don't think this has been a successful strategy, though. The real story is OPEC destabilization. Saddam threatened it, and he had to go. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Make up your mind From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Sep 06 - 03:29 PM Politics is seldom, if ever, about telling the truth. It is about creating an impression in those impressionable minds out there. The people who like George Bush normally like what he says. They hear it differently than the people who don't like him. He's simply saying what his advisors think will go down well with the people who are most inclined to vote for him. What does truth or consistency have to do with it? ;-) In politics, only the final result counts. |

Subject: RE: BS: Make up your mind From: Alice Date: 02 Sep 06 - 04:53 PM I should have mentioned that Jon Tester is a farmer and a musician. He has a bachelor's degree in music and taught music in a school near his family's farm. He converted the family homestead to organic farming a few years ago. He became involved in politics when Montana deregulated the power utility. He led the state legislature and has helped in the movement to renewable energy. He is running against Conrad Burns, the senator who is most notorious for sticking his foot in his mouth at every opportunity and being associated with the Jack Abramoff lobbyist scandal. Conrad Burns should be replaced in the senate, and Jon Tester has the people's support here. Unfortunately, Burns has big Republican money behind him. |

Subject: RE: BS: Make up your mind From: Bev and Jerry Date: 02 Sep 06 - 08:10 PM That question to Bush came as a follow up question when Bush's answer to the first question included references to Iraq and to 9/11. After he said "nothing" he added that no one had ever said they were connected. This, of course, was a colossal lie. Even though Bush never explicityly said they were connected, he made dozens of speechs which began talking about 9/11 and gradually segued into Iraq. Result: about 70% of Americans came to believe that Sadaam was responsible for the events of 9/11. Bev and Jerry |

Subject: RE: BS: Make up your mind From: Ron Davies Date: 09 Sep 06 - 08:51 AM Excellent, Bev and Jerry. I remember hammering the late lamented Teribus with "Before Sept 11, 2001, many in the world believed that Saddam Hussein could be contained..." Teribus hasn't been seen for a while. The quote, of course, is from the 2003 State of the Union address. Just total coincidence that Saddam and Sept 11 were linked that way. Teribus never did buy the bridge I had to sell him--but it's still available. Why the hell haven't the Democrats been hammering Bush with that quote--why didn't Kerry, for instance? |
