Subject: Obit: Bernard O'Sullivan From: GUEST,Jim Martin Date: 04 Sep 06 - 03:19 PM Just heard in the last hour on Clare FM that this great Co. Clare concertina player was laid to rest yesterday in Kilmahill. Some of you may remember he made a record with Tommy McMahon some years ago. |

Subject: RE: Bernard O'Sullivan From: The Sandman Date: 06 Sep 06 - 01:00 PM IT is a long time since I have heard Bernards recordings, but I gather from what I have read elsewhere, that his style of playing is no longer fashionable. I remember he had a very dancey style. With Comhaltas trying to homogeonise style, the sooner his recordings are issued on c d, and made available the better. lets hope concertinists stop apeing one style, Its getting rather like the time every guitarist sounded like a martin carthy clone. Bernard was a lovely player who had an individual style, may many people but his c d s when they come out. Dick Miles |

Subject: RE: Bernard O'Sullivan From: GUEST,Jim Martin Date: 08 Sep 06 - 08:11 PM Well done ,Dick! Incidentally, I heard on my local radio station, Clare FM, that Bernard and Tommy McMahon sadly never managed to get a copy of their (1971 I think it was) LP. Changing tack completely, do you remember when you came to the folk club (Buzzard Folk Club) in Leighton Buzzard which I helped to run 20 odd years ago? You were doing a tour for the "Unicorn" federation of folk clubs at the time. I'm now living in Co. Clare. |
