How/when will you be notifying people you do not want in the group so we'll stop trying to access the site?

thanks,

i do not mean to be rude,
but i will not approve of
anyone to join this unless they are
a member of mudcat.
we have so many problems with guest
trolls and others who have no way
of being id3entified, that i will
only open the room to those who are
registered members of mudcat.

i had a person ask to join who I
could not find in the member list,
and i said check back again when
you have become a registered member.

if you are a member and i did not see
that, i apologize, please apply again.

you need a yahoo nick name to join.
no cost involved.

*fondly remembering HearMe sessions*

...I tried to do the PalTalk thing once or twice, but no one seemed to wait after they were finished to see if anyone else wanted time, they IMMEDIATELY 'raised their hands' to get back in line. It just didn't feel like sharing, but more like elbowing.

Just joining a queue, I think. I preferred the paltalk "hands up" but I think it became more of an advantage with larger numbers of people than you would get from just Mudcat. I also doubt that the lack of any admin controls would have been workable now.

In some ways I did prefer the Hearme days but those reasons have nothing to do with the technical merits or otherwise of either system.

I finally have a computer and a connection that could manage it and would be interested to give it a try--but would have to be an 'occasional' participant because of time and space restraints.

It just didn't feel like sharing, but more like elbowing. Perhaps I am too sensitive..*wry grin*..I just know it didn't feel like that when I sang in HearMe 4-5 years ago(5-6??)

I am willing to try again, if we get something set up.

The P;atalk room worked on the basis that only one PC could have the mike at any time - an honour system of 'putting up a hand' queued requests for such - all others were able to listen - the text chat worked at all times - there was provision of a camera from each person, but those on dialups found it a bit constricting - with a little fiddling, one could get reasonable sound sufficient to hear each performer, one at a time.

I assume Yahoo or MSN would be no worse.

ahhh...I have fond memories of the many hours i spent sharing music with my friends on pal talk. It is too bad the mac format is not supported.
Oh .... for years i have hosted a room there...often on thursday nites.
The live music scene there is not what it once was....more hokey karioke
there now...and foreign rooms, too. One member there invited me to uses another system...www.indline.com....it was not working very smoothly at first, but maybe they are still there--if they have improved thier
technology, maybe they work now. Good luck and lets all go investigate other places and options and check back here..i think yahoo and MSN both have chat room features....i could quite easily start a yahoo group so we could experiment with it....i'll let you know when the room is established and we can try it....or maybe one of the other mud chats is sound capable....the existing ones might be able to add that feature...

Whatsay we find out Dave. I've never had any more than three in a conversation on Skype but I seem to recall an "improved conference facility" being announced a while back. Can we have a time and some volunteers to be there?

Are we beyond the PalTalk technology now, to where a cellphone conference call on speakerphone is financially and technically feasible?

I've been told that Skype is ideal for this kind of thing--EXCEPT that the "room" can only handle a very few participants. I haven't tried it, myself.

The Mudcat Room on Paltalk probably died more due to lack of interest and the absence of anyone who could have it open on a set schedule. Mudcat member Francy does open a folk music room on occasion but, due to his schedule, is rarely able to give much notice, which hampers participation.

Foolestroupe, does the Yahoo 'chat' system allow for voice/music transmission? If so, it might be an interesting alternative, especially if Mac users could thereby participate. I, too, miss the old Mudcat sessions and wish they could resume.

Yahoo has a similar 'chat' system - including the ability for group conferences.

I do not know about mac compatability. I think Paltalk was 'Intel coded' - Yahoo may be 'Java'...

I would dearly like to have the Mudcat 'Room' open again.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any alternatives to PalTalk for being able to sing and play music live on the web? I am now using a Mac and, apparently, PalTalk does not support Macs.
