Subject: RE: BS: In favour of the status quo? From: The Shambles Date: 19 Sep 06 - 11:50 AM It may be stretching it for some to consider Status Quo as folk music (or music at all) - but shouldn't this thread be in the music related section? |
Subject: RE: BS: In favour of the status quo? From: John MacKenzie Date: 19 Sep 06 - 11:55 AM It belongs in the music section the same way as you belong on this forum; i.e. not one little bit! |

Subject: RE: Do you support the Status Quo? From: melodeonboy Date: 19 Sep 06 - 04:45 PM I can never forgive them for that horrible girly version of John Fogerty's "Rockin' All Over The World". If you want to hear ROCK music, listen to the original by Fogerty. |

Subject: RE: Do you support the Status Quo? From: number 6 Date: 19 Sep 06 - 07:27 PM The Mudcat is like a bumpy old clapboard wagon as of late ... guess it fell off somewhere. sIx |
Subject: RE: Do you support the Status Quo? From: Richard Bridge Date: 19 Sep 06 - 07:36 PM Oh well, type it or at least the sense of it, again. The Quo from the time they decided to play "Chunk-a-chunk" (I think it might have been "Down the Dustpipe" were a very good rock and roll band with just the right mix between tight and loose. I thought John Coghlan was the best drummer, and the band was killed when Alan Lancaster left. Paper Plane was great, and also In My Chair. There is still litigation going on... Why was Alan Lancaster called "Nuff"? (snigger) |
Subject: RE: Do you support the Status Quo? From: alanabit Date: 20 Sep 06 - 02:40 AM I used to like them in the old days. There were some fine singles, of which "In My Chair" was probably the wittiest and best. I used to like their version of "Junior's Wailing" too. Then one day, a friend played me the Steamhammer version... Yes, there is a big difference between a reasonable rock band and a tight blues outfit. |
Subject: RE: Do you support the Status Quo? From: GUEST,Elfcall Date: 20 Sep 06 - 02:50 AM That fine dance band from Coventry Peeping Tom used to (and may still do so)use the Quo's Burning Bridges Tune to finish their set - most people did the polka as I recall. Elf |
Subject: RE: Do you support the Status Quo? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 20 Sep 06 - 03:16 AM Not a big fan of the more popular stuff although I must say that they are very good at it. I do like some of the more unusual numbers - All around my hat as already mentioned. Sorrow. One they have done recently the title of which escapes me - much slower number than usual. There was also one called, I think, Gerdandula - Very unusual riff to it. Cheers DtG |

Subject: RE: Do you support the Status Quo? From: GUEST,Domnull Date: 20 Sep 06 - 04:59 AM Great band - I've seen them 8 times, mainly at their peak in the 80's including Sun City in about '87, when it just wasn't the done thing to play there - good on ya lads! Fantastic guys too - really down to earth - just the kind of blokes it's good to have a beer with. Their concerts are unique - a real sense of 'family' and almost ritual (in a nice sense). And of course they have had more chart hits than ANY other band. "Nuff" said |

Subject: RE: BS: In favour of /Do you support the Status Qu From: Joe Offer Date: 20 Sep 06 - 06:02 AM The first thread was stupid, but I don't think that constitutes a reason for deleting it. I undeleted the messages from the previous deleted thread and combined them with this one. But I think the "discussion" fits best into the "BS" category, where the original thread was located. I'll admit that's an arbitrary decision, but I had to pick one or the other. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: In favour of /Do you support the Status Quo? From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Sep 06 - 06:37 AM I have to disagree with you here Joe: it's about music. |
Subject: RE: BS: In favour of /Do you support the Status Quo? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 20 Sep 06 - 06:54 AM Hm... they ain't rubbish musically. they make it look easy. You can go on thinking they're rubbish, until you're a guitar teacher and one day some kid says to you - that's what i want to do. and then you start taking it apart, and its not easy - believe me. |
