we dont have a club for booking artist at the moment (the soc is primarily dance orientated) and Breezy I dont have time maybe when I have finished the degree or if i can get a few students along to other folk clubs ( hence the other thread)

Also i am a fan of Mr A's so we will see what happens. Cllr

Hello Mike, as you know harvey has appeared at Windward St Albans 4 times in the last 5 years and he compulsory guest for any folk club , especially in the midlands.

if you dont set up a gig for him then you should be shot

he relates to and opens the eyes of these young people who are devoid of the real truths

Book him cllr, or else, hell you booked me once, or was it twice, and now you can do the biz where it counts

Harvey ... probably not me, then ... I did the bookings for Warwick Uni in 71/72, although I was almost certainly at the club when you played there in 73.

For those interested, the ceilidhs run on the first Thursday of each month (except August), and have now been going for over 30 years. The band is the same each month (Peeping Tom obviously), with a guest caller from a list of the best the UK has to offer.
This month it's on 5th Oct with Pete Rees from Bristol calling - one of the best of the new crop of young callers.
The dances take place at Massey Ferguson Social Club, Broad Lane, Coventry - good dance floor and reasonably-priced drinks - 8.00 to 11.00 ish. It's a bargain £5 to get in, and you can get further info from 02476 674491.

well, as an Open Studies 'attendee' at warwick , I was apalled at the lack of folk music, apart from the Arts centre(money-making business), the lack of music courses there is a crime, given the facilities.
Every monday in the whitefriars is an instrumental irishy/englishly night,melodians, harp,violins,whistles,banjo, guitar (even a set of french bagpipes tonight) depending on people who get there, and I force a song down their throats occasionally.
The warwick folk club has splintered, and there are several 'meets'. in southern warwickshire.
Coventry itself has the Tump and Wurzel (outside cov in Brinklow) and the 'Fletch' http://www.hanmade.co.uk/warwick/diary.htm.

The four provs has singing on the stable room, but try this lot.

I'm an ex student of Canley College, now part of the University.I was a member of a folk trio, The Ozarks. Did concerts at the Uni in the 70's. I also compered the first folk concert at Canley, a year after I left. The guests were Bert Jansch and Deroll Adams. One day you should invite me to give a talk and i'll tell you the story of the night. Quite bizarre!

I know George Whitfield (Piano Accordian player from Pressgang) was at warwick Uni in the eighties.

There is only the ceilidh society at the moment I am just trying to widen the appeal by icluding oter aspects of folk other than just te peeping tom gigs we go to ( we have show of hands coming in november to the arts centre)8-) cllr

Now me, I ran the folk club for a while back in the early 70s at Warwick. Booked Dick Gaughan for £15, and Jasper Carrott for much the same sort of money ....And was part of the folk dance soc., too.

Wow things have come on. I was at Warwick in the mid 90s and part of the Folk Society. I think there was only about 3 regulars; myself, a guy from Bristol and another from Malaysia who didn't seem to like folk music at all and only played Clapton (but hell, we needed the numbers).

Have a good evening and recommend people visit the local folk clubs. Ask them to try the Coventry Folk club at the Whitefriars, Gosford Street (2nd Thursday of the month), I'm told there's a good singaround there.
