Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: GUEST,SJ at the Mill Date: 19 Oct 06 - 07:16 AM Me too! The heaped praise made me blush! Thanks Mark, I thought the voice was OK, but the guitar sounded nervous and a bit 'electric' - hopefully it sounded more 'acoustic' through the PA on the night? :-) I intend to put the lyrics on my site also (with proper credit to the author!), plus a sound-clip from the demo (which is infinitely better than the live recording from the finals night - D'oh!). S:0) |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Rasener Date: 19 Oct 06 - 11:04 AM Well I have the lyrics stored on my PC now, ready to print out in time for GFF. If I arrive at 7:30 it should be dark in the theatre so I can creep in and avoid Deadly Deidre :-) Mark Addison |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 22 Oct 06 - 02:19 AM J'etait embarrasse!! (Was that summat Franglais Flossie? I'm having a Craft moment!). LOL! Could Joe or a clone tell me how to put an acute accent on the letter 'e' please? Perambulating Johnny |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Rasener Date: 22 Oct 06 - 03:18 AM Strollin try this to put an acute accent on the letter 'e' Hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and type one of the following numbers on your Numeric keypad (not the numbers along the top of the keyboard)and then let the Alt key go. Your letter should appear. é = Alt 130 ë = Alt 137 è = Alt 138 The numbers are ASCII codes here is a link to the ASCII code table ASCII tables The dec column is the ASCII number and the red character are what you get. Look at the Extended ASCII codes table at the bottom of that web page. Hope this works when I post it :-) Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: breezy Date: 22 Oct 06 - 03:35 AM an acute pain. Well thats todays lesson over with So how went the Greek guy then? Dear S J , am I still awaiting? have a great day chaps |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Rasener Date: 22 Oct 06 - 03:41 AM IMHO that Greek guy did great. You should be concerned Breezy, becuase he joined The Duncan McFarlane Band on stage and sang with them. Maybe just maybe he will join them and stay up north :-) |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 22 Oct 06 - 04:03 AM Sorry Breezy - haven't fergotten but been a busy chappie this past week (back at the mill full-time, yeuk!!). I'll get on the case this coming week. Cheers, S:0) |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: the fence Date: 22 Oct 06 - 04:14 PM Sorry I missed it!!! Son needed a taxi this morning and daughter required one this afternoon. I must need my head examining!!! |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Tim theTwangler Date: 22 Oct 06 - 09:52 PM Thank You Gainsbrough. You ran a Festival to be proud of ! We had a really special weekend thanks to all the hard work you put in. Probably starting just as last years festival ended. We have been made to feel a real part of everything and we reckon you are all great people. The Music was of course superb throughout. The workshops were all great (Duncan I would rather listen to you play than myself any day) I have had a guitar lesson from a guy who's splaying I admire very much. I had a friendly chat with a guy who can carve an image in your heart with his lyrics. We saw JK's new haircut and the healthiest looking SJ we have seen for ages. Saw the professionalism of The Caters and heard loads of fantastic new (to us) songs and tunes, performed in great surroundings by people of all sizes shapes and ages. All performing the music they love and want to share. This is gonna sound very OTT but we have laughed and cried and all by the power of your music. So thank you all and can we come next year please? TA you guys are the tops thank you so very much for all your kindness and hospitality. Cheers all of you. Tim And Jen. The Twanglers. |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Tim theTwangler Date: 22 Oct 06 - 09:54 PM ps as well as admiring Mr Sooz's splaying He aint bad on the guitar either.LOL |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Sooz Date: 23 Oct 06 - 04:04 AM Thanks for those kind words Tim and Jen - much appreciated! Mike is looking a bit splayed this morning though...... |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Tim theTwangler Date: 23 Oct 06 - 04:16 AM I take it you were celebrating the success of all that hard work? Dont forget even the most well practiced and expert of performers may lose their edge after a period of inactivity. You should have given him more of a warm up period before playing the main gig. It was a great event mate I hope yopu and all the others in the team are truly pleased with the result and feeling rightly proud of the end result. |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Oct 06 - 04:37 AM One nun dead! |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Travelling Audience Date: 23 Oct 06 - 06:18 AM Thanks to the committeee for the hard work that produces such a brilliant weekend from start to finish!! We enjoyed having our old friend Ian and our new friends The Twanglers stay over. Now we read the Cat......back to bed..... and before any comments...to sleep :-) |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: George Papavgeris Date: 23 Oct 06 - 06:44 AM I was back home by 11:30, knackered but very happy. Met and chatted to a lot of people, had fun on and off stage with everyone, enjoyed singing in the church and listening to everyone else, enjoyed Dai Woosnam's little speech for the award of the certificate to John Blanks (and loved the song too, John) - in all, a great festival, and Sooz deserves an enormous pat on the back for its success and for making it all seem so effortless (though I am sure she and Mike could tell a few stories about all that has gone into it). Here's to the next one! |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: GUEST,Silver Songsters Date: 23 Oct 06 - 08:11 AM Guess who this is from!!!!!! We're so pleased to have been part of the committee for such a fantastic festival. I agree that it has been the best ever, intimate and comfortable. Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: Rasener Date: 02 Nov 06 - 04:26 AM Excellent photo's. I particularly like the photo taken by John Blanks of Flossie on stage at the Trinity Arts Centre, with the Gainsborough Folk Festival banner. |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: breezy Date: 02 Nov 06 - 05:09 AM I'm worried about George, thought he'ld stopped all that nonsense. That was no bed of straw btw what did he sing with Dunc Mc |
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Festival From: HipflaskAndy Date: 03 Nov 06 - 05:56 AM Hi Breezeblock. George sang with the band on Can't Go There, Woodshed Boys, Boys of Bedlam, Robin Hoods Bay and Bed of Straw. George and Duncan also finished off the Sunday concert together with Bed of Straw and Friends Like These. (I think the last pic on the link up above shows 'em mid Bed of Straw). It was, as we old hippies say, a gas! Hugs - Dunc |
