Subject: Chord Req: Summer Before the War From: GUEST,Jeremy Date: 09 Oct 06 - 04:16 PM Can anyone help me track down the chords for this song? I have the Fairport version from the '88 album "Red and Gold." I've looked everywhere, but no luck. Actually, there's a definite lack of ANY Fairport tabs anywhere on the net, with a handful of exceptions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE SUMMER BEFORE THE WAR (Huw Williams) From: GUEST Date: 09 Oct 06 - 04:42 PM Are these the words? Artist: Connie Dover Song: The Summer Before The War All on a Saturday, bright as a bell Early and just for the ride We took a trip, cycling down to the sea You, and your lady, and I. And oh, what a summer And oh, what a sun Right to the blue sky it clung. One day at Whitson The sea had the shore The summer before the War. Warm summer places, where you could taste the country air Chasing our shadows, we'd fly Down through the narrow lanes, racing the slow trains And the last of an age going by. And we had a good time And we had some fun There was time then when we were all young. One day at Whitson The sea had the shore The summer before the War. Young hearts and young souls Young minds to unfold Knowing the untold, somehow. One day at Whitson The sea had the shore The summer before the War. We found a small cove, by the sand and the water The salt air was brushing your skin. With your hand in her hand, there was nothing to say, Just watch the sea rushing in. And oh, what a moment And oh, what a day We held it and it never slipped away. One day at Whitson The sea had the shore The summer before the War. One day at Whitson The sea had the shore The summer before the War. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Summer Before the War From: GUEST Date: 09 Oct 06 - 04:55 PM When I Googled "All on a Saturday, bright as a bell", in quotation marks, it showed on only four sites. Two with Dover and two with Fairport. No chords at all. I am thinking that you'll have to await a Mudcatter who plays the song to insert chords. However, if you have an mp3 and can send it, I will do my best to insert the chords into the lyrics in a key of your choosing. Something I read somewhere says it's done in Bb by Fairport. Anyway, let me know. |

Subject: Chords Add: SUMMER BEFORE THE WAR (Huw Williams) From: Nick Date: 09 Oct 06 - 07:19 PM I play it slightly differently but broadly similar (capo 3) (G)All on a (D)Saturday, ( C)bright as a (G*)bell (C)Early and (Bm*)just for the (Am)ride(D7) (G)We took a (D)trip, cycling ( C)down to the (G)sea (Am)You, and your (D7)lady, and (G)I. Subject: RE: Chord Req: Summer Before the War From: Nick Date: 09 Oct 06 - 07:25 PM I reckon it's "the sea and the shore" rather than 'had' but could be my ears. Fairport sing the following verse differently - "We found a small cove, by the sand and the water The salt air was brushing your skin. With your hand in her hand, there was nothing to say, Just watch the sea rushing in." They sing - "We found a small cove, by the sand and the water The salt air brushing our skin. Your hand in her hand, and her hand in mine, Watching the sea rushing in." In Bb on the album |
