Tomorrow will not only be Friday the thirteenth (as it happens roughly twice a year) but for the first time since January 13th, 1520, the sum of the digits of that date (13. 10. 2006 or for Americans 13/10 2006) will also be thirteen.

So expect awful things to happen tomorrw like in 1520, when my great great great.... granny forgot the soup on the fire and they had to go to bed hungry and the pot had to be replaced.

Wolfgang

Triskaidekaphobia is a fear of the number 13. It is usually considered to be a superstition. A specific fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia (from Wiki)

So it was friggin' friggatriskaidekaphobia I meant and not just triskaidekaphobia. Just a simple English word to add to your vocabulary. I hope I'll never come into the situation to pronounce it.

Nothing to fear about Friday 13th. I used to work for a bookmaker in the 70s and we always looked forward to it, because we usually made exceptionally good profits on that day.

And I moved into a house numbered 13 on a Friday 13th and that seemed to bring good luck too.

You can't have too many. Bring 'em on, I say.

Dave...What genius! The bride and I originally wanted to marry at Christmas but were unable to assemble the whole family until July. It was the only Christmas in family history that was celebrated without everyone present. At the time it felt like an omen, now you make me fear for what we missed. 22 years and counting maybe it was nothing (Orwell and 1984 notwithstanding)...Hope we make it as long as you.

Peace, Mooh.

oh..Wolfgang..."(13. 10. 2006 or for Americans 13/10 2006) "

most American write it 10/13/2006 (I guess it is because we 'usually' say when speaking, October thirteenth)

Well so far it's been a perfectly presentable day, apart from some weirdness from my daughter - but that's not unusual.

It's been very hot - 36 degrees C max here. Summer has hit with a vengeance. However a trip in my airconditioned car to the airconditioned shopping centre took a lot of the sting out of it. It's now after 7pm, and still 27 degrees. We're having pork chops for dinner in a little while, and I can hear a frog somewhere outside the window - what's the problem?

I started today with the prospect of root canal work and a trip to the vet with an incontinent cat...

The root canal turned out to be far less work than I thought (and far less money!), I found a £20 I didn't know I had, and the cat has had a dry night.

I like Friday 13th so far!!!

Or, put another way:

10+13+2006=13
1+3=4 which has a good solid base as in the pyramid. And, now, for a bit of trivia about the number four:

Four derives its significance from various sources. It is the first "composite" number; that is to say, the first number that can be created from multiplying numbers other than itself and 1, in that 2 X 2 = 4. The simplest solid object — a tetrahedron — has four sides; hence four denotes solid matter in general and the Earth in particular, as the Earth is a solid object bounded by four cardinal points (North, South, East and West). Time is another concept strongly associated with four, on the grounds that the year has four seasons and the month has (roughly) four weeks; Christian-oriented observers also note that the life story of Jesus is told in four gospels , each of which is in turn linked to one of the four classical "elements" of fire, air, earth, and water. Specifically, the Gospel according to St. Matthew is associated with earth since his Gospel stresses Christ's incarnation in earthly form; water is accorded to St. Mark since his Gospel emphasizes the importance of baptism , fire is ascribed to St. John since his Gospel is the most "spiritual," and air is assigned to St. Luke since his Gospel is the longest. The association with Earth means that four symbolizes being practical and "down-to-earth," while the fact that four is the first composite number is linked to the idea of an other-directed, "composite personality" that takes cues from different and often conflicting sources, leading to fiercely independent, "out-of-the-box" thinking. In the Jewish religion, the number four is significant because of the Tetragrammaton , the four-letter name of God which is so holy it is never spoken. In Chinese numerology (as well as that of other Oriental languages), the word "four" is a homonym of the Chinese word for "death" (see Tetraphobia ). As thus, some hospitals do not have a
fourth floor.

our locazl contra dance caller has compposed a dance called
triskadekaphobia...unnatural fear of the number 13 is how she intro-
duces it. i wonder if anyone will be dancing it tonight or
if a new dance friggatriskadekaphobia will be invented today.

i am unsure if the actual dance contains 13 of anything..
turns, jumps, star formations, steps, etc.

I was going to do a bit of recording today on a borrowed machine, to see how I like it and maybe get one of my own (I have sneaky plans). Marantz PMD660. About the size of a thick paperback book. No tape or mini-disc. It records on a flash-card, like a digital camera. Then you download it into a computer, tweak it a bit there if you need to, and burn a master or go into wholesale production. Neat!

This is usually a very quiet building, especially during the day when just about everyone is gone. But my upstairs neighbor apparently decided to stay home and rearrange her furniture or something, and then the building cleaners arrived and were running vacuum cleaners and floor polishers, and then someone who's moving out decided today was the day and I think they threw a piano downstairs or something like that, followed by several other heavy pieces of furniture, and in general, I've never heard that much yelling back and forth and door slamming in this building before--for the whole flamin' day! Other than that, the day's been okay.

Okay, maybe tomorrow I'll try out the recorder. He's gonna want it back fairly soon.
