True - but Art Tatum and Ray Brown were both born on October 13th also. And they must have had more of an influence on the world of music. Marie was a pop singer - but Art and Ray were both class acts that influenced the world of jazz in ways that can't be counted.

Marie has one recording that I like - a duet with Dan Seals (I think). Something like 'Meet Me in Montana'. Great harmonies.

Besides, she wasn't a pop singer, as I recall. She was more country.

She had a recording of "Paper Roses" that a waitress in a diner in Providence must have played 15 times on the jukebox one day in 1971 while I was having breakfast. The diner burned down a week later. I didn't do it but it seemed fair at the time.

BTW, Mama Cass did not die by choking on a ham sandwich. She died of a heart attack. There was a partially eaten ham sandwich in her room, and the initial speculation was that she had choked on it, but it wasn't the culprit.

And there are liberal Mormons who vote mainly Democratic here in the US, even in Utah. There are Mormons in good standing who support gay marriage. Just as there pro-choice Catholics who have not been turned away from the Eucharist (in both churches "in good standing" is largely a discretionary matter on the part of the Bishop and his advisors).

The leading Esperanto activist in Las Vegas is a very liberal (and very ecumenical) fellow who is an LDS convert from RCC...

Utah is one of the most Republican of States. If you live in Utah there is about a 70% chance that you will vote GOP. I think that is higher if you are Mormon. Higher still if you are rich and would be voting against your tax breaks.
