I have read during the last weeks with a lot of interest (and in many parts with approval) a series of articles in DER SPIEGEL about this theme. You can get access to English translations of four articles so far following

this link.

The articles deal with the dangers of cheap global labour to environment, social conditions, and civil societies. The author's main recipe: threaten with Western protectionism to force other countries to adopt our environmental and worker welfare standards.

Wolfgang, I did not find that conclusion explicit. Am I missing the closing chapters?
