I am furious. I have just discovered that my daughter's school played host to a so called celebrity today and not only were they all expected to go to listen to this girl but also encouraged to collect her autograph. The girl in question apparently won the latest reality crap tv show 'Ladette to lady' where girls who by there own admission were the dregs, getting drunk every night and being the worst possible type of young person are taken to a posh school and given lessons in etiquette etc. I didn't watch the show so until today did not realise that the girl in question was at school with my eldest daughter and was a known bully who made my daughter's life (and probably others) a misery. Staff were aware of the situation at the time so why is she being invited back to the school to be paraded as something wonderful?
Excuse the rant but I feel so angry!!

Is there a PTA - Parent teachers association where you can express your views? I can understand why you would be upset. But is it possible that they are trying to show that this girl has turned her life around?

"my daughter's school played host to a so called celebrity today"
Sounds like you said one day to me....

Or were you saying that you only found OUT today? After 5 years?!?! Way to take an active parenting role...

Find me one kid that says highschool wasn't a misery and I'll show you a kid that never left their locker.

Clinton, she gives more detail further into the post.

I have to say, though, that if they were using this girl as an example of how to turn your life around I think it's a good thing for the kids she bullied to see. I don't agree with it being mandatory, but that's just my opinion.

Maybe she was serving as a bad example?

If she showed any remorse and actually apologised it may have had a purpose?

My kids school informs us when speakers come in (beforehand). I would be more worried about lack of responsibility shown by the head of the school.

Mrs Duck, try to get legal aid for your daughter to sue this bully now she has money to make it worthwhile.

Clinton, I think you are getting confused. The daughter who was bullied left the school nine years ago and the problem of bullying was confronted if not definitively dealt with at that time.
The girl won a large sum of money for being the last 'Ladette' to be voted out but whilst she may have learned how to hold a fork and wear a frock there is no suggestion that she has any regrets for past behaviour.
As for the school they have had a change of management and the anti bullying policy I believe has been much improved since then but a number of staff were also not happy to see the girl back in school in this way.

Bullying is in most schools and there are measures in place to try to stop this sort of thing happening, unfortunately though it is not always that successful, having said that again it depends on the school. I can understand your feelings on this Mrs Duck, and I would also be incensed at the idea of having someone in the school as an example if it is just for her to parade herself, but if it is to show how she, or people like her can change their lives, and she can admit to the children in the school how wrong she was and she can condole bullying etc then I see it as constructive and positive, similar to when ex drug addicts and alcoholics visit schools to talk to the children about the dangers etc etc.

I do however believe ALL parents should be fully aware of what is to take place, not necessary to withdraw their children but so that they can also discuss the issues as a family, and with their children after the event.

I have a lot of sympathy Mrs Duck. Anybody who has not experienced these bastards who have a real talent to abuse, should just shut up. Its a real problem. Horrendous in it vastness and infinite variety. Most schools say they have it under control, and there is no problem. they are ALL lying their arses off on this subject.

None so blind as those who don't give a shit.

Why do you call yourself Mrs Duck?

Because its what everyone else calls me:0)
I didn't get the impression from Maddie that any mention was made of her past but merely here is someone off the telly who used to come to this school. TV cameras were there too but I don't know which channel or if and when it would be screened. Since she won the competition no doubt she will be doing the rounds of all the chat shows - make your own minds up.

Well, in the US, Mrs. Duck, the situation is surreal. Even by Hollywood standards. We're being conditioned, as Anglo-Americans, to accept scum as role models. As far as bullying, the girl needed a good ass-whipping, if not by the teachers or parents, then by your daughter. Sorry, but that's the way the world of bullies works. Hope it all turns out alright. ...Ladette? I haven't watched TV in years. I felt stupid even typing that, don't know why anyone would watch it. You wanna watch reality, bang your forehead into the mirror. Lot less painful I imagine.

Sadly, another example of the lionisation of useless trash. Unfortunately, such shows are watched and voted on by the legion of the similar, and we are all expected to regard them as celebrities. Fine, stand forth celebrated TRASH.

Decline and Fall? Is the similarity with the fall of Rome not starting to look rather striking, even down to the rise of new enemies in the East?

Or should we be reading the Book of Revalations what with climate change 'n' all, waiting for the rain of scorpions, and the death of the fish in the sea?

didn't claim to be wonderful, but a damn sight more compassionate in my response than sneering nameless git. the thing is, you feel so powerless in the present situation watching a child suffer - both as a teacher, and as a parent I should imagine.

why imagine anything or expect anything bullies dont give a flying crap what goes on in the heads of their "victims" and as for parents and teachers especially, they'd rather just turn there heads than actually face the problems that happen in ur childs or pupils lives. so for any one who thinks bullies should be praised, i solute you for your admitance that you are devoid of compasion and a sense of equallity so while we stand proud of the bullies such as vicky jenkins i shall not play a trumpet in her favour for if not for her, i would not be who i am today a person who fears the opinions of others and shys away from any close contact so if you want to see the affects bullies have on schoool children mr clinton hammond allow me to show you the scars not just on the outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we are saying people aren't allowed to change? I'd rather applaud a bully that has changed their spots than have a world full of ones that haven't.

Drawing a rigid line between bullies and victims of bullying is mistake. Only too often victims can be turned into bullies, and bullies can become victims. Sometimes in particular situations it's not at all clear which is which.
