I thought it was quite good simply because the caption when he was speaking said 'Jim Radford - Folk Singer'. Not often you see that on TV without someone taking the piss!

No doupt that Jim has written very many better songs than "Ryanair". It's not so much a song, more of a social-economic comment, and written from life, it certainly went down well at the Irish pub we were at last night.

Jim is a veteran of the D-day landings. He saw active service in WWII and has been campaigning for peace ever since. He is a regular performer and organiser of FolkMob

I've been to the World War cemeteries in France and have been very moved. But the best memorial I have yet encountered was Jim's song on the D Day concert. I was a soldier for a little while and any soldier would be proud to sing that song just like that - honest, no frills, all heart.

Wow! I had forgotten all about starting this. I saw Jim again on the D-Day concert when he sang his wonderful and emotive song.

Two TV appearances in only 8 years! Must be a record for a folk singer :-)

D.

He has been all over the news this last week, because he was the youngest serving seaman at D-Day. He will likely be singing with us again at Knockholt this year, if he is over his sore throat.

Lovely to watch the reaction to his song. Known him for quite a few years before I moved to NZ. Lovely bloke and a fine singer and songwriter.

Jim was at Blackheath Folk Club last night where he got a huge round of applause and a specially baked D-Day cake - without even performing. He has been on TV a lot more than twice - he was also a leading campaigner for justice for the Stephen Lawrence family and wrote a memorable song that named names long before any court verdicts. He also is in the feature film "Mayday Tugs Of War"

A lot more about him and his songs in this other thread, Sandra:
The Shores of Normandy

In Edinburgh during the Festival Fringe, there was an exhibition on the subject of the WW2 Arctic Convoys in St Mary's Episcopalian Cathedral, and my friends and I did a couple of concerts there on this theme. One of my friends sang Jim's song on this subject, "The Merchant Seaman"
