Subject: BS: Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: My guru always said Date: 16 Nov 06 - 03:36 PM Today I became the proud recipient of one of jacqui.c's Shawls, and I have to say I am overwhelmed by her kindness to me! It's just beautiful and the perfect colour - Cadbury's Purple *grin*. It will be worn often, especially when on the PC as it's across the room from the log-burning stove. ThankYou jacqui.c!! I know that there are other Catter shawl-makers and there will be other happy recipients of their kindness too. So, which other blessed Catters are in this elite club? |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: Ebbie Date: 16 Nov 06 - 07:12 PM And I! A frequently nestled in, beautiful turquoise one that hangs within arms reach over the back of my big chair. Thank you, Jacqui! And I haven't forgotten MMario either. I dearly wanted to find him a few ounces of qiviut, but the retail price, locally, is $84 an ounce- and I was told that it would take three or four packets to make a shawl. When my ship comes in... |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: SussexCarole Date: 16 Nov 06 - 07:15 PM Beautiful burgundy which matched match my wedding dress |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Nov 06 - 07:18 PM I've had at least a couple of MMario's works of art pass through my hands. I have one now, and I remember sending one to my secret santa a few years back (Barb'ry)--that might have been more of a shoulder wrap (or a table runner) but it seems like I had a bigger one also. I can't remember now. Maybe MMario has kept track. The auction records only go back a year. Did I send a shawl to someone else? I'm drawing a blank. SRS (having a senior moment. . . ) |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: MMario Date: 17 Nov 06 - 03:34 PM well, yes, you are, but I don't think it has anything to do with shawl possession. *grin* |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: jacqui.c Date: 17 Nov 06 - 03:57 PM I think MMario will say the same, but I find as much pleasure in making and sending the shawls, I think, as the recipients do in receiving them. |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: katlaughing Date: 18 Nov 06 - 04:19 PM Well, how many is that so far, that these two incredibly and generous Mudcatters have made and sent out to us all? They really add up, don't they?:-> I have a stunning green and purple soft one made by MMario and full of Mudcat love and hugs for my recovery from heart surgery. It came as a complete surprise, instigated by my sister, bet, and Alba! This year, dear, sweet Jacqui made me a wonderful chenille shaw, another suprise(!)...in green (my fav. colour!) I still cannot figure out how a thing of such delicacy, with so many *deliberate* holes can be so warm.:-> I love them both and will always treasure them, not just for their physical beauty and the skills of their makers, but also for what they represent...friends, love, caring, our community. I feel blessed. Thanks, luvyakat |

I have two from Jacqui, both for which I traded jewelry stuff, which was not really of equal value to the shawls. (I suspect she was trying to let me save a bit of face.) The yarn is the stuff of wishes and dreams. There's compassion and love in each delicate strand Touched by the shawlmaker's hand. |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Apr 07 - 11:52 PM So now are you all agreeing that you have shawls or toilet paper roll covers? Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: CarolC Date: 28 Apr 07 - 01:12 AM A beautiful natural cotton (or perhaps ecru?) shawl/table runner from MMario which if I remember correctly was a wedding present for me and Jack the Sailor (way back in '02). I'm really glad I saw this thread - a good reminder that this is the right time of year to start wearing it again. I believe I will wear it to my next gallery opening. |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: Zany Mouse Date: 28 Apr 07 - 06:56 AM I'm a very lucky Catter. I received a beautiful hug-shawl from Jacqui when I came out of hospital. Gorgeous blues - my fav colour. Mine will emigrate to France to live in my old cottage in Lower Normandy. It will be much needed there and can be used by visiting Catters too. I can see myself wrapped in it and sitting in front of a roaring log fire with a glass of something nice. I'll raise a glass to the lovely Jacqui too. Maybe we should all get together sometime and wear our shawls. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 28 Apr 07 - 06:57 AM Don't know how I missed this one. I'm an early recipient- back in the autumn of '04, when I needed it most, a secret cabal of Mudcat carers sent me a lovely, brilliant green MMario creation. It still sits tucked next to my pillow and is the one (of all the shawls I own)that I reach for when reading in bed- it feels like a soft, warm embrace. |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: katlaughing Date: 07 Jun 08 - 12:06 AM Folks, MMario has done it, again. I wrote to him last winter, during a very busy time, to ask if he would make a shawl for Night Owl and how much money he would need for the supplies, his time, etc. When her house burnt to the ground it was before the shawl thing really got started and she's had all kinds of other things come about which have kept her offline for several years. Anyway, our Gallant Gentleman that he is, MMario, offered to make her one gratis. She is THRILLED with it. Perfect colour, design, softness, all those MMario specialities which we all love. And, a beautiful way for her to still feel connected and to feel the warmth and caring which she knew when she told us her story in her A Mudcatter's Thank You threads. Thanks, again, MMario. You really are a wonder. And, Jacqui, don't think I haven't thought of you, too, sweetie. Check your PMs. My Morgan had a delightful nap today wrapped in my shawl which you made, at his request. I'll take a picture next time! Thanks, you two!! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 07 Jun 08 - 08:06 AM I took my Jacqui shawl to Seattle for my dad's funeral and wrapped up in it every day, warmed and comforted. I still have my MMario shawl and still find comfort in its warmth and brightess, too. Maybe I'll start knitting shawls again now that I'm going to have a little more time (so she said)! |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: mouldy Date: 07 Jun 08 - 02:32 PM I'd just like to add that one of Jacqui's creations is now in New Zealand. As the recipient is rather small, and the weather is turning cold, she's got a lovely shawl-sized blankie instead! I just wish I'd taken my shawl out, as a mere cardigan wasn't up to the early morning temperature of the house! Andrea |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: VirginiaTam Date: 15 Aug 09 - 12:47 PM Wheeeee! As of today, I am a bona fide member of the jacqui.c shawl club. It's a wonderful anthracite grey/black. And I am just chuffed to bits. I keep holding up, trying to work out how she started and finished it. I have already scolded TheSilentOne for getting his white whiskers on it. Just amazed she had time and thought to do this considering all she and Kendall have been through and are going through these last several months. Thank you so much Jacqui. |

Her last cogent wish before Alzheimer's took her mind was that we keep him playing, so the music connection would mean a lot to him. He has a lot of gigs coming up, but nights are long and his adult son just left so he's more alone now. I'm braiding a rug, but that's already spoken for. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: Hollowfox Date: 17 Nov 11 - 11:18 AM I just discovered this thread -what a wonderful idea! I got one year before last, I think. It has a permanent place on the living room sofa, so whoever needs it after a hard day, or if they're a bit cold, has it right to hand. Even non-Catters (and non-cats) can feel the caring and affection that went into its making. |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: katlaughing Date: 17 Nov 11 - 03:36 PM I, too, have a Jacqui shawl and also a beautiful, turquoise scarf. I know there's magic in every stitch because they are so warm, yet they have so many holes. :-) I also have a very special shawl made for me by MMario which was and is still filled with special energy from all of you when I had my heart surgery. I feel quite spoilt, but I love them all very much. Thank you dear lady, sister and friend, and thank you MMario for the beauty and love you brought into my life. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Nov 11 - 11:43 PM I've been planning to use my shawl more this year - and have picked up a couple of blouses in great contrasting colors so the pattern of the shawl shows up on top of a bright blouse. Those cats you did for Mary are wonderful, Jacqui. You're quite an artist and continue to amaze us! SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: KT Date: 18 Nov 11 - 08:00 PM How have I missed this thread until now? I am, as I write, snuggled in a lovely, cozy blue and white shawl which Jacqui presented to me at my very first Getaway. It's not just its ability to stave off the chill of temps in the teens - It's the love and skill in every stitch and the joy of friendship that keeps me warm when I'm wrapped in it. My two year old granddaughter has kindly shared her beautiful, white, infant-sized Auntie Mudcat Jacqui blankie/shawl with her new baby brother. An heirloom to be handed down to their little ones someday. Thank you Jacqui! Will you please come here and teach me how to do that? |

Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: My guru always said Date: 19 Nov 11 - 03:26 AM I could spend all day looking through Jacqui's creative photos but there's not enough time in the day to look at all the beautiful gifts she has created! And where did she find the time to create them? Straw, Kendall, get some straw - if anyone can do it, Jacqui can!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Handmade Catters Shawl Recipients Club From: ClaireBear Date: 10 Feb 12 - 11:51 AM I just received the wonderful Jacqui shawl I received as winner of a Norma Waterson benefit auction. It is a lovely big rectangle of darkest black, punctuated with occasional tiny multicoloured sequins. When I wrap it around myself, I feel as though I am being embraced by the night sky. And just when I could most use a hug, too. Thank you, Jacqui dearest! Claire |
