Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: GUEST,mollycat Date: 13 Dec 06 - 07:40 AM Will the Duncan McFarlane Band be doing at spot at Otley FC tonight? |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: HipflaskAndy Date: 13 Dec 06 - 09:05 AM Hi Molly - yep, the Beeb are recording Otley FC tonight and there'll be a wealth of the residents and locals onstage for a couple each. The acoustic format of the DMcF band have been 'invited'... So, as the broadcast is to go out on Christmas Day, we've had a quick dabble at 'Here we go a-wassailing' and a version of our own 'Robin Hood's Bay' (with specially adapted 'seasonal' verses!) Come have some mulled wine - cheers - Duncan |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: The Unicorn Man Date: 13 Dec 06 - 01:28 PM "Take me down to Robin Hoods Bay at Christmas Take me down Roll me down." Something like that by any chance? |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: HipflaskAndy Date: 13 Dec 06 - 01:54 PM No, Martin, much more thought went into it than that! Just! How's things darn sarf? Just setting off for soundcheck now - byeeeeeeee - D |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: BusyBee Paul Date: 14 Dec 06 - 02:58 AM So, how did it go? |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: HipflaskAndy Date: 14 Dec 06 - 05:37 AM A fun night was had by all - still recovering! Cheers! By the by... We're guests at the Polaris Folk Club, The Star at Roberttown tonight (m' acoustic band)... That's the very pub featured in the song 'Rawfold's Mill' (based on local Luddite riot true tale) ....'and in the Star at Robberttown, first Hartley then Booth died'. Cheers - D |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: BusyBee Paul Date: 15 Dec 06 - 05:06 AM So, how did that one go then?! |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: MoorleyMan Date: 15 Dec 06 - 10:42 AM Brill - two good stomping sets, Dunc as loquacious as ever (he even did the full intro for a song that wasn't in the set!) and Ann,Steve & Geoff on great form. Really good, well organised club (complete with resident ghost doin' his party tricks with the lighting!), responsive crowd, grand atmosphere - excellent therapy...! |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: HipflaskAndy Date: 15 Dec 06 - 05:54 PM er.... in my defence!..... The lights kept flickering.... the 'hostess' referred to the 'ghosts' that supposedly haunt the place (two men died on the premises after the Luddite-Rawfolds-Mill incident). She stated that the men were shot there - another lady in the audience chelped up in disagreement and 'debate' ensued. I took the liberty to explain the tale as I'd researched the subject extensively before writing a song about it (two years back?). I quoted a portion of the lyric... After a five minute break in the proceedings to cope with the matter in hand (and flickering overhead still!).... we set off on the next song in the set - not Rawfold's Mill! A good time was had by all - mebbe we should have played the song... but I was trying to do as many songs that were new to that venue (having played there only last year) - and trying to play as many trad songs (rather than my own) as possible. Phew - that's all ffffffolks! (- for now, yep, I DO like to rabbit on....)- byeeee - Duncan PS thanks to organisers, floorsingers and audience there, we had a grand night - thanks one and all. |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: MoorleyMan Date: 15 Dec 06 - 06:37 PM Hey Andy - no need to leap so defensively to yer defence... ye did reet good, matey! |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: BusyBee Paul Date: 15 Dec 06 - 07:48 PM Oh, that's all alright then! Where and when is the next gig please HA? |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: HipflaskAndy Date: 16 Dec 06 - 05:06 AM No worries Moorley, I was just trying to explain to any that read your post 'why' we intro'd a song we didn't play (lest they think we're numpties - which, of course, we are). I'll PM you Paul re future dates - right now - we are having a break for Christmas and have two albums (one band, one solo) to complete... And I have a major musical 'party' to prepare for!!! Besides.... After the car write-off debacle of early 2006, I will be trying to avoid driving anywhere once we get some ice (and snow)! Hah! |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special' From: HipflaskAndy Date: 17 Dec 06 - 08:24 AM I forgot to say.... At the end of our last gig (Roberttown) a man gave our guitarist Geoff a book to pass on to me. He didn't give his name. Cheers man! The book 'Maypoles and Morris Dancing - Customs and Traditions Revealed' is a National Trust Publication. It has a £7.00 price tag on the back and I would have gladly paid the chap back for his effort (and cash!) - and I would have liked to thank him personally. That was most kind, sir, for you to take the trouble to find, buy and pass on the book (How did you know about my current 'research'?) Do let us know who you are and we'll arrange drinks/cash/gig admission/CD - something! - to see you 'sorted'. All the best - Duncan McFarlane |
