Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: Sorcha Date: 24 Nov 06 - 07:47 AM Chips ONLY work IF the finder takes the critter to a vet or scanner. Seems that these finders didn't do that. Just kept the dog. |

Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: katlaughing Date: 24 Nov 06 - 09:54 AM Sorcha is right...chips won't help unless they are taken to some place which has the scanner OR, if we were to find her and challenge the "new" owners in court. However, we WILL be getting them both chipped. KT, not sure if the story of someone having her for three weeks is even true. People lie when they turn in pets, sometimes, imo. The whole thing sounded kind of fishie and I don't think the Animal Control people would give out any more info as they don't want people to go bonkers and try to retaliate against anyone who may have been keeping their pet. Thanksgiving was really nice. Numa is very, very worn out and skinny. A bit unsure of what is allowed, so a bit subdued when in the house, but outside, with her sister and boy, she romped as much as they did. It is obvious she was kept outside a lot and either spoken to harshly and/or possibly hit. We gave her tons and tons of loving, rubbing her belly, Morgan cuddling her and giving her kisses, etc. She will be okay, but will going to the vet this coming week to be checked out, etc. Thanks, again, to ALL of you. Mick, Numa says, "Yes sir! I shall do my best, forever, to stay with my boy and be his friend.":-) luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: wysiwyg Date: 24 Nov 06 - 11:12 AM A chip can also be key in determining ownership of a dog in dispute. It's a lucky thing your claim stood-- she must look different after so much time passed, being a growing dog and all. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: katlaughing Date: 24 Nov 06 - 01:02 PM Will do, Mickdarlin'. Thanks.:-> Susan, she has very distinctive markings and a floppy stub a tail which will not stand up right. The AC people told my fau. they matched her to the picture by the white markings on her paws! we are very fortunate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: Blowzabella Date: 24 Nov 06 - 01:10 PM Hi kat - so pleased to hear this news - I can hardly imagine how you must have felt, getting her back. Thrilled. Truly thrilled for you all - and delighted for Nuama Jean too - she must have wondered what on earth had happened. Did she know you when she saw you? |
Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: katlaughing Date: 24 Nov 06 - 03:19 PM Thanks,Blowzabella, she knew my daughter as soon as she saw her AND, esp. when she heard her calling her by name. I guess she went apesh** in the kennel, then when she got her out to the car, she crawled in the backseat, got in my grandson's car seat (he and I were at class) and rolled around in it. She was his first puppy and slept with him every night, so I am sure she wanted to "re-scent" herself, get rid of all the alien smells of the past few weeks. Today, she seems much rested and more exuberant; playing with abandon with her sister and Nanny Dizzy, the pit bull mother-hen who lives with them. She's going to be alright. *Sigh of Relief* (I am trying to break my habit of looking for her as I drive along and also watching to see if the posters are still up. It's wonderful to be OFF Alert! I think we're going to try to get to most of the posters taken down by tomorrow.) You folks are the best. Thanks, again! |
Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: Bert Date: 24 Nov 06 - 07:00 PM We had a dog that used to dig under the fence. Chain link fencing laid flat on the ground in front of the fence stopped those tricks. |

Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Nov 06 - 01:07 AM It is obvious she was kept outside a lot and either spoken to harshly and/or possibly hit. We gave her tons and tons of loving, rubbing her belly, Morgan cuddling her and giving her kisses, etc. She will be okay, but will going to the vet this coming week to be checked out, etc. As Cesar Millan wisely says, dogs live in the present. Offering tons of affection (because you're upset about what she might have exprienced) when she is in an unstable state of mind (nervous, jumpy, or cowering) will just reinforce the unstable behavior. Act like she was never away, and when you first walk into the room, ignore the dogs and let them settle down before you offer them affection. Otherwise you just reinforce jumping on people or the hyper behavior. I can see it in my dogs when I have the presence of mind to catch people before they trot over to the back gate and start patting jumping dogs. We just stand and talk for a couple of minutes until the dogs settle down, then we go in or pat them. Much better. It won't make Numa Jean feel unwanted, it will reassure her that you're her pack leaders. Seriously. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Numa Jean is home!! (Kat's grandpuppy) From: katlaughing Date: 26 Nov 06 - 11:14 AM Not in this case, SRS. She has settled right into the usual routine and has been very calm when being loved on. Fortunately the effects of her soujourn have not lingered, or perhaps they were not as bad as we first thought. Her sister, Blondie, has had a harder time adjusting with her return and has been a bit jealous. They're working on it, though and, at the end of the day, all pile into the bed, together, for a restful night's sleep...well all but my dau. who has been relegated to the outside edge of the bed!:-) Thanks, kat |
