Subject: BS: Fortunato's son needs job NYC/Brooklyn From: Fortunato Date: 07 Dec 06 - 08:23 AM My son, Ian, has a non-paying internship in NYC and has recently moved to Brooklyn, and needs a job. He has recently completed training as a recording engineer at Omega Studios (one of the best) and is competent at live sound as well. He is looking for something to complement his internship, maybe a a restaurant job or something in the evening or flexible. If you have ideas, we'd be grateful. PM me. Thanks, Chance |
Subject: RE: BS: Fortunato's son needs job NYC/Brooklyn From: Stilly River Sage Date: 07 Dec 06 - 10:52 AM There's so much going on in Brooklyn he should enjoy the job search. I lived in Brooklyn and commuted to lower Manhattan for a couple of years (I worked for the Park Service out on Ellis Island). I also worked for the City of New York in Prospect Park. I don't know how "complimentary" restaurant work is compared to sound recording, but Brooklyn has a lot of them. A couple of my favorites are near the downtown area on Atlantic Avenue (I visit the Tripoli whenever I'm in town). If he's looking for evening or weekend work I'd try some of the department stores, the Brooklyn Museum, some of the concessionaires in parks. And for sound work, at least seasonally, there are big setups that happen in the parks during the summer for performances in the parks. I used to hang out with some of those folks when they came over to Prospect Park or if I was detailed to another borough to work at a concert. He'd have to ask what company has the contract to set up sound and stage for concerts. It has been many years since I lived there, so all of this may have changed, but it might be worth taking a look into. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Fortunato's son needs job NYC/Brooklyn From: KateG Date: 14 Dec 06 - 04:17 PM Craigslist posts jobs, and temping is another option. When my husband (then fiance) and I moved to Brooklyn from Chicago 24 years ago, he worked as a Kelly Girl (now Kelly Services) while hunting for a "real" job. |
Subject: RE: BS: Fortunato's son needs job NYC/Brooklyn From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Dec 06 - 08:12 PM I have a friend I'd forgotten about who did the same thing maybe 5 years ago (moved to Manhattan). Hopefuly she has a regular job now, but there are a lot of people who are content to work the irregular schedule. SRS |
