Just found this again too late to add my support & postitive thoughts! So glad you got out Zany, but rotten that the cold got you back in hospital. Do you remember my (well, Hawker's actually & many thanks to Her!!) 'hedgehog droppings'? Can I recommend them to you for an immune system booster, even if they just helped a Tiny Bit?

For those Catters who were Not at Miskin perhaps I'd better explain (before you all feel queasy) that I'm referring to Echinacea. I arrived at Miskin with a cold, Hawker thrust a bottle into my hand and I religiously took many drops of it in liquid - usually beer and that was religiously too. About 24 hours later I managed to sing my set without too much of a problem. Bloody wonderful stuff!!

I'm out! We've just had a delicious turkey dinner, thanks to Mick. Better late than never?

I can't honestly say I'm fighting fit yet but at least I can breathe semi-normally again.

That's 3 bad Christmasses in a row - let's hope that will be the last of them and that Christmas 2007 will make up for the baddies.

Just in case anyone's trying to contact Rhiannon, I thought I'd better make an unaccustomed post below the line.

She just couldn't resist the call of the hospital. That cold turned into something nasty. She could barely breathe on Christmas Eve and about midday Christmas Day had to give in and go to A&E, and she remains in hospital. She's been on continuous oxygen since then, supplemented by numerous nebulisers and massive doses of steroids and antibiotics. She's showing some slight improvement today, but still can't do without the oxygen.

Christmas dinner remains uncooked (though I can't leave my lovely bronze turkey any later than tomorrow, come what may) and New Year plans are also likely to be cancelled.

I dare say she'll post when she's out, but if there are any urgent messages for her, PM me and I'll get them to her.

Well, I'll be switched! It is kind of hard to re-group, isn't it.

It happened to me once. I was scheduled to have a hernia repaired and when I was checking in I told the doc that I still had a bit of a cough left from having had a cold. My doctor scoffed. That's a smoker's cough, he said. You just want to get out of the surgery.

But when they did all the pre-op stuff, it turned out that I was running a low grade fever - from having had the cold - and they sent me home. Humph

Update for those kind catters who are interested:

The 2nd is now off! Pete Burnett gave me his cold at the Kiveton Park Folk Club Christmas Party and the hosp are insisting on 3 weeks clear after a cold before they will operate. So, it looks as though the op is going to be scheduled now for end of January/beginning of February.

I'll be calling on those good thoughts and prayers for then!

One good thing I have to report is that the 'mass' hasn't grown anymore according to latest scan. Maybe that won't be as horrid as expected.

Well, here I am at home again! I went in yesterday, spent the night on an insulin pump and drip. This morning I was prepared for the op, which was scheduled for about 10am. I spent an hour on a nebuliser, had an extra canula put in, given antibiotic cover and sat there and waited.

At 10.30 I was told that the bed in the High Dependency Unit was no longer available and they would have to reschedule. I'm due back in on the 2nd January. Ah well - at least I will have Christmas at home.

I'm just about to leave for the hospital.

Many thanks for all the postings and I will take all your warm wishes with me. I'm actually quite positive about everything at the moment. It will be great not to have the pain and nausea and whatever this 'mass' is will be better out of my bod than in!

I'm still hopeful that I will get out of hospital on Christmas Eve, and if will power has anything to do with it, I will be. If not, we are going to have a late Christmas, and we are spending a lazy new year in Bournemouth with good friends.
