Subject: BS: Traveling on Christmas From: RangerSteve Date: 22 Dec 06 - 02:01 PM Good luck to those of you who are doing any long-distance traveling this weekend. I hope the trip is a safe one with few traffic jams and good weather. I'll be leaving New Jersey tomorrow and going up to Newburyport MA to drop off a friend, then south to Worcester, MA for a few days, then back home. If you see a silver Toyota Echo with NJ plates on the NY Thruway, Mass. Tpke, or I-495 in Mass., it might be me, so feel free to honk and wave. Steve |

Subject: RE: BS: Traveling on Christmas From: LilyFestre Date: 22 Dec 06 - 02:11 PM Good luck to anyone who ventures out at all over this holiday weekend! I have just returned from the market. I thought I'd get a jump start on the Friday night shoppers, holiday last minute shoppers, etc. Yeah. Right. WOOOOOOOOOO DOGGIE! People were pushing and shoving, even some of the vendors who were stocking the bread shelves were shoving. YIKES. I did the best I could to maintain my composure and smile at folks but I was VERY happy to get out of the mad house! Frustration was written on everyone's face along with RUSH RUSH RUSH...so I imagine local driving may be a bit dicey too. Take it easy out there. I'm in until next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Michelle |

I'll be doing a loop down through the UK midlands, then back to Whitby. I wish you, and all our other travellers, a safe journey with no hassles. |

Subject: RE: BS: Traveling on Christmas From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 Dec 06 - 05:22 PM Safe journey to everyone - especially those planning to drive in the south east of the UK... the most amazing fog has decended upon London and environs.... I've never seen it so thick! We had a strange view of the sun yesterday. It peeped from behind a cloud bank but it was a flat, white disk, rather than the golden orb we're used to. It looked more like the moon, gave very little light and only served to highlight the solid blankness of the fogbank. The Solstice was lit as if from underneath - at times my view was restricted to about 300 yards and I'm halfway up a 33 storey building! Today, at about 9.00am, the sun broke through. The light was bright gold, the sky was bluer than a robins egg and unsullied by vapour trails. Because the cloud was very low, and we are very high, we could see just how wonderful it looked. It was still a uniform expanse of grey/white, but it had a golden crust and the sun glinted off the windows of any building over 10 storeys. The bonfires of Solstice have worked - the Sun has returned!! Trouble is, as the sun warmed the air, the cloud rose and we were back to 300yrd visibility and greyouts again! LTS |
