Subject: Cd for Breast Cancer Campaign £1 only
From: Rockhen
Date: 23 Jan 07 - 06:02 PM

This is for an excellent cause so I don't feel too bad plugging it. We have been raising money for the Breast Cancer Campaign, one of the many good charity causes. (See separate thread Wild Wolds Women/Helian Keys Charity Gig).
I have written a new song called 'Take my Hand' with Ian, the other half of our band, Helian Keys and recorded it with him. We have produced a cd single with the song on and are selling it for just £1. It is nearly all profit as all those who have been involved have given their various skills for free, so at least 80p will go to the charity. In addition to Ian and I, (Helian Keys), others playing on the cd include the rest of the Wild Wolds Women Wild Wolds Women myspace site
and a very talented fiddle player from Grimsby, known to some as 'Tequila Sunrise'!Fiddling Floozie!
I think you can hear a sample from the song 'Take My Hand', here
Helian Keys myspace site ...if I have done this correctly! (You will need to select 'Take My Hand' from the 2 song files on there.)
Please PM me if you want to support this by buying a cd.
Just to make it clear, we are not making any money ourselves and the only costs are materials, for the blank cds and the labels for the cds.
I can post the cds but will look into how much more I would have to charge to cover safe postage and post the cost on here.
Thank you very much for bothering to read this, folks!

I have already got one.

However WWW and Helian Keys have done a great job to promote this charity and have worked so hard to raise an incredible amount of money in such a short time.

So go on, give em your support.

if anybody is interested, they are also Resident Performers at Faldingworth Live

Why is breast cancer more worthy of concern than prostate cancer?

I don't think it is. We choose a charity each year to do a gig for and one of our close friends had breast cancer, so we decide to choose the Breast Cancer Campaign as the charity to receive the money we raised.
No other reason. The 2 previous years we also chose charities in a similar way, as a response to those we knew.
No offence intended, (or taken,) as I did not suggest or intend to suggest that breast cancer is more of a worthy cause that that of raising money to research prostrate cancer.
Hope that answers your question with regard to us choosing this charity, Peter.

Midchuck...No-one suggested such a thing as I can see. They are both worthy causes and I suggest you give something to both as well as any others you may consider deserving. Best wishes, Mike.

Come on Folkies...a CD for only a pound...can be sent to USA for $2 plus postage I would imagine. Judging by the performers, the CD is really inexpensive...so cough-up!

We have had several people reply by PM, GS,including one from USA and one from France. I think people often look at this type of post, think...oh, I'll perhaps send to that, and then it gets forgotten in today's frantic rush.
It helps if people post on the thread too, to say they are going to PM me, as it keeps this thread active.
Thanks to all those who have asked for cds. Much appreciated, ta!

Hoping to get a mention in the local paper about it this week...if they get the details right, as they sometimes don't put full info in because of lack of space.

Latest news on cd. We made another £41.49 from selling the cd tonight. Thank you to the generous bunch at the Tap and Spile acoustic night in Grimsby, including the landlord who gave a donation. Special thanks to Tim the Twangler for using his persuasive charms to sell so many cds :-)
Those who are waiting for cds to be posted, thank you for being patient. They are in hand but it is just taking time to get them all dealt with. (Thank you, David Carter, received your money today, btw!)

Just heard a certain member of our bands, after some persuasive talking, finally got their workplace to give a decent donation which, with the cds sold so far takes our total to about £900...Is brilliant and you never know, with a little more persuasive cd selling, we may nearly reach the 4 figure mark!
Apologies any people still waiting for cds in the post, they ARE being dealt with but we are just waiting for the next batch to be finished, as well as sorting out a new Paypal system for those requests from abroad. Thank you for your patience!

Hey, does that mean if I get loads of women to walk up to you each with a cd in their hand...you will buy a copy from each, GS? LOL! Will prime WWW and any other female friends!
(Oh...OK, OK! Only joking cos you have already made generous donation!)

I am busy copying yet more cds as I type...thanks Tim and everyone for the support! I am a bit disappointed with our local paper as they got the details of the cd wrong, even though I handprinted that it was written by Helian Keys they still put WWW! Sorry, Ian! I know you said it was the charity that mattered, which is true but was a shame that they totally messed up the write-up...at least it was in the paper, I guess!
Think I'll write a letter asking them to put it right, DOH!

Hi GS
Am counting up this morning and we are just over £950! Madly copying cds and trying to catch up with postal orders. Nearly up to date with them apart from a couple of trickier requests which should be sorted early this next week. Quite a few people have asked for cds but I haven't seen them yet to pass them over so there will be money from those, too!
Am delighted with the response and thanks for asking!

I don't know if you saw the alphanumerical quiz that was in BS but would you like me to make one for you to use in swelling the fund?
One of those quizzes where you pay £1 for the sheet to have a go on and prize money of £25...ie, you and friends sell 100 between you and hey presto £75 profit for the fund. If so pm me your E-mail address (which I promise I won't abuse) and will send you a quiz.
Best wishes, Mike.

I emailed AND phoned them about the mistakes...and all that after printing the information into the reporter's notebook myself and I KNOW I DIDN't make the mistakes as I triple checked it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
The paper's name is....and the reporter was.....very tempting to badmouth them...think I will ring them again and be even more ASSERTIVE this time...maybe even set mello cello chick (from WWW) onto them...oooo-errrr

Haha, Villan!
THe badges are little pin badges with the jigsaw logo on. They are pink metallic paint effect and very attractive. We also have some of the ribbon badges left, I think.
Yes, we have just, tonight, gone over the £1000 mark...!!!
YEAHAHHHHHHH!
:-)
We wanted to allow extra as we had a few expenses to cover re doing more cds. We didn't want to do too many at once so are doing them in batches but we sold 32 more, tonight, which cleared all costs re doing the extra cds...so the actual profit made for the charity has just gone over the £1000 tonight. We performed the song live again, tonight, so it was nice to clear the magic thousand, this evening, with people buying AFTER and BECAUSE...rather than BEFORE they heard it! :-)
Thanks once more to all who have helped or supported us in this. It is brilliant to get such an overwhelming response.

The badges are separate, Villan and cost you another £1 sorry! They are produced by the charity, not us. I have a few left if you decide you want one.
We will of course, continue to sell the CD as long as people keep asking for it.
We opened a paypal account because we had requests from abroad, so can supply copies to outside the UK, too.

THANK YOU very much for all the support. I wish I could contact everyone who has helped, individually to say thanks but there are too many. You are all brilliant! Gush gush! :-)

Latest update, for anyone who is interested...We paid a cheque in for the total so far, on Friday. It was for the brilliant total of £1150 and I know there is at least another £30 to come already as someone else sold some for us.
Thank you to all those who have helped sell the cd or supported our gig/fundraising. We are really thrilled with the amazing total.
We will continue to sell the CD to anyone who requests it and please also note the above link for the Yellowbellies 2 Cd...

Thanks GS but is as much down to Ian, who has worked really hard and all those who have helped in any way, selling the CD. It hasn't been a horrible job as it was great doing the song. If we had known beforehand that it was going to go well, I think we would have tried to find somewhere that would produce the cds for us as that has been time-consuming and at times difficult to keep up with demand. People have been very patient though which is really appreciated!
IF anyone knows of a good place in the N lincs area that we could approach to hand over the production of further cds, I will contact them and just see if they would be too dear if we ever do something similar or get further demand for a lot more copies of the song.
Cheers, and thanks again, everyone.
PS CD still available, as is the Yellowbellies CD, (see link above!):-)

Hi Helen
As you know we produced a cd for Bassetlaw Hospice in Retfordlast year, and we used a place in Worksop, North Notts. I know its not North Lincs but if you are vaguely interested I could let you have their details. They are a professional company who were very helpful to us in producing our first CD.
best wishes
Lin

Thanks Lin, can you PM details? It wouldn't hurt to just ask them what they charge, I think. I may contact Fairview, near Hull, too which is the one we used for WWW a couple of years back.

Thank you again to all who bought our CD for the Breast Cancer Campaign. The support was wonderful from you all.
We are just putting the finishing touches to a full CD by the same Helian Keys and will be selling it to raise money for a local home's minibus appeal, for around £5-6 very soon.

It has 8 original songs by HK and also contains bonus tracks, Take My Hand and Price I Pay, songs which have been previously sold as singles.

we are donating all profits which should be around £4 for the Charity...please check the other mudcat thread below, for info...
