Hey all.

I'd like to create a new IRC chatroom (channel), for friends to meet, after another long-time stomping ground has gone sour with trolls.

I'm using mIrc softwhere, and in the help section, under "creating a channel," the instructions are:

You can create a new channel if it doesn't already exist just by joining it. So, let's say you want to create a channel called #bubbles, you would just type /join #bubbles, and if it doesn't exist it will be created for you. If it does exist, you will just join it as usual

And I'd like to create a place that has a little more permenance than that, if that's possible. Or is that needed?

Any tips?

Check in the help/support channel on the IRC server you are using. They will tell you what they require before providing you with a permanent room.

On the server I used to use, I think they wanted a commitment from a minimum number of members to assure that the room would be used.

right... I have the room registered, now... (found the /msg Chanserv Help command). Next comes setting the options for the room. Right when I think I'm following the syntax they give, it turns out, I'm not.

I'll try again in the morning, when I'm bright-tailed and bushy-eyed...

If you can't figure it out, there are a number of free chat's available which arte much easier to set up and less likely to be invaded by trolls, (or curious onlookers), than an IRC channel.
