Subject: Recording Equip. For Recording
From: GUEST,Mark in Seattle

i'm looking for inexpensive (sp?) recording equipment to use to record my voice and guitar playing. i don't want to spend a lot of money on it ($50-$80). i'll take any type of recording device/equipment that records decent. any tips or suggestions on what to purchase to record myself singing and playing guitar? i was thinking about a 4 track player, or a computer program i could buy or download on my computer. i've moved beyond using my basic & regular cassette tape player.

thanks for your help.

You can try a 4 track recorder.

Get yourself a mic, plug it into your computer, download Audacity, and you're off to the races.

Hi bobad: I tried Audacity but didn't get very far. Downloaded Wavepad and had a lot more luck. Maybe have a look if you haven't already done that.

Try doing a search on Mudcat for "recording equipment".

You can get USB or Firewire preamps which will take a mic or guitar jack, convert it to digital and spew the results into any audio recorder program. Generally they're around $100 or so (or £100 in the UK - yes we get screwed over on this kind of stuff). Cheaper ones just do one or the other; slightly more expensive ones will do both.

Graham.
