Abby Sale posted the words sung by Phil Hammond in 1952 here:

Does anybody know anything more about this strangely extended form of the song ? Has it ever been collected from anybody else ?

I've always thought it to be unique. Did Hammond ordinarily enhance his songs in this way ?

Hi Lighter,

I wonder if you've spotted the recent article on Phil Hammond on the 'Musical Traditions' website (www.mustrad.org) yet? It's called, "Billy Lown and Philip Hammond, two North Norfolk singers".

The article mentions Mr Hammond's version of 'The Foggy Dew' but it makes no mention of where he got it from. It does, however, contain numerous quotes from his son, Ned Hammond, who, it appears, is still alive. Perhaps you could trace him and ask him if he knows?
